theRealBassist,

Awesome idea for a D&D monster though. A coin mimic which only attacks when you try to spend it lol

theRealBassist,

I feel like the closest in the deep south is just “preaching to the choir”. A redundant task which ignores a probably better path or explaining something to someone who doesn’t need it explained to them.

I worked for the stormwater division of my city up until recently.

We had 6 people responsible for the inspection of over 30,000 pieces of stormwater infrastructure all of which needs to be inspected within a 5 year cycle. We also have to deal with citizen complaints, assisting other departments, updating maps/inventories, writing EPD/EPA reports, etc. and all for 15-18$/hr. My experience is far from abnormal as well.

We need city level government to actually give a shit about stormwater infrastructure to even get things working halfway properly let alone setup safety features.

theRealBassist,

That’s not a storm drain, known as an inlet. That’s a pipe section functioning as a culvert or outfall.

theRealBassist,

Also Divide and Conquer for TW: Medieval 2 is goddamned amazing

theRealBassist,

Valinor - Proxmox server Khazad-Dum - TrueNAS Scale Rivendell - Ubuntu 22.04 server

Got a few others as well, but those are the ones I interact with the most.

theRealBassist,

Literally not at all. It’s a completely different genre.

theRealBassist,

My confusion with this post is that it already exists? It’s just your home screen on your phone.

Ergonomic, supports a variety of functions (adjusting settings, running applications, customization, viewing device info), is loosely standardized (much like terminals across OSs), and widely adopted.

The only difference is touch interface vs. Text interface.

Like what are you actually looking for? A gesture controlled terminal or an interface? You already have the latter.

theRealBassist,

Also, if you’re not in a rush, just email the authors!

A vast majority of professors and researchers hate the publishing industry as much as anyone, and will be happy to shoot you a pdf if you’re interested in their work!

theRealBassist,

Mostly black, but after living in the UK for awhile I got used to doing a touch of honey and/or milk.

theRealBassist,

A secure but inaccessible server is useless.

Security must take into account the needs of the real world.

theRealBassist,

I would love to read or something while sitting doing nothing every day. However, I get yelled at and constantly receive shit from my coworkers for being lazy… while they also don’t do shit.

So I sit… and stare at my screen… and press buttons occasionally.

theRealBassist,

It’s definitely not a contraction.

-er is the agent suffix in English. Effectively it turns words into those who do something related to that word.

Hawk > Hawker = One who “hawks” Run > Runner = One who “runs”

In principle this implies the existance of a verbal form of the root word, such as the two above examples.

Witcher, as used by the fantasy series, is a weird one because it’s actually not related to the agent suffix.

The Polish title of The Witcher is Wiedźma which just means “witch”. When it was translated to English they adopted “witcher” as a masculine form to the oft feminine “witch” by using the ability for the -er suffix to indicate a profession or association with a noun in English i.e. Cash > Cashier, someone who handles cash/payments (actually derived from french with the -ier suffix, but point still stands). In the cass of Witcher it is one who works as/with witches or else one who is associated with Witches.

theRealBassist,

Yea just to further add:

Plastic is not an adhesive.

So, at least on Samsung, the MyFiles app, the default file browser, allows for network connections via smb.

In my case, I use a vpn to tunnel into my network, and then just use the smb share.

It also allows for FTP and SFTP.

Animal Crossing City Folk

Zelda Windwaker

Pikmin 1/2

Zelda Minish Cap

Wario World

Yoshi’s Island

Pokemon Pearl/Platinum

Those games were basically my childhood, so yea definitely my favorite.

theRealBassist,

Oh damn my formatting got all mixed up.

I’ll fix that

theRealBassist,

There’s a weird thing with bind mounts and permissions.

In my case, for my Ubuntu VM to have correct perms for 0:0 (root), the PID and GID in ProxMox’s fstab need to be like 11000:10000 or something.

It’s apparently working as intended that way, but it’s weird.

theRealBassist,

Nee-uv is correct. The ‘i’ carries the stress, as indicated by the accent, so the ‘a’ turns into an unstressed vowel /ə/.

To anyone else who has studied Irish, this is purposely a simplification.

theRealBassist,

I did an MA in Welsh and Celtic Studies at Aberystwyth.

I did a few courses involving Old Irish and Scottish Gaelic, and while I enjoyed them I definitely can not speak any lol

Ond, mae fy Nghymraeg ddim yn ofnadwy.

theRealBassist,

I’m both a gamer and HP fan.

I thought the game was great, and I didn’t really realize the depths of people’s distaste for it, I guess.

Was it crazy revolutionary? No, but it was fun.

theRealBassist,

in a hospital in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

The city is called Jenin. The splinter grouped is named for the city. The cemetary is named for the city.

theRealBassist,

Man I got some friends who are archivists, and they’d love that shit lol.

They love their field, but it’s a lot of mind-numbing work
