After having wasted hours today trying to get Windows11 to install on a PC that fullfills all hardware requirements, only to see it install and then fail to boot, I am more and more coming to appreciate how easy installing and using Linux has become. Insert usb drive, boot install thanks, see ya

Here is an interesting one, building my xml converter tool on mac using g++ displays all errors and warnings by default, on my ubuntu 24.04 box, it doesn't show a thing and seems as all has gone through without errors.
adding -v shows a little, but not as detailed as the errors on my mac. (See screenshot)
Any tips as how to get my linux box to show me more details?

Mowing the lawn, listening to music. Song ends, suddenly hear bells ringing, very rhythmic, thinking nice, Hells Bells has come up!
Different song starts playing, taking out the ear phones, realising it's actual church bells I am hearing.
Taking out phone, playing Hells Bells anyway 🤷‍♂️

Having spent some time creating a smart home around homeassistant, I naturally placed a couple of sensors around the house and the garden. The Gardena Soil sensor must be one of the worst yet. Without watering and in bright sun light the soil humidity went up 10% today, while it registers the soild temp at 49°C now while the air is around 20°C. Not even the wintergarden goes up that high, it is at 36°C.
That thing is useless

A little interesting nugget from my journey in PCs. My aptly named PC, the beast, under fedora (kde) used to draw around 700W from the wall playing ME3 via steam and proton. Under W11 it's around 200W. Desktop use olny was around 120W on Fedora and is now around 80 (50 lowest) in W11. In defense of fedora I haven't installed TLP or any other power saving tech. But while not happy with W11 in many places, out of the box optimization in W11 isn't bad....

? Sometimes that is the only way you can look at it. My father was taken to intensive care on Thursday afternoon and today my sister was moved to the hospital due to after birth complications. Tuesday I was a happy man holding my nephew in my arms, today two of the people I care most about are in hospital and I can't do a thing. Guess that's life. Still sucks...

I visited the Apple store in Vienna today and here is something that annoyed me. In German, there are two ways to address a person, per "du" which is the personal way used for friends and family and per "Sie" the polite way to address someone you are not friends with and who is a grown up.

Every single employee of the store used the "du" with me even if I addressed them as "Sie", which is very impolite.

Also I might be getting old.....

It is official, I am an uncle now :-)
My nephew was born 30 minutes ago after giving my sister a hard time since 1 am. But he and his mother are healthy and now recovering.
Looking forward to meeting him soon :-)
