So to be absolutely clear: you cannot transfer toots from an old to a new account, right?

I move to replace Hungary with Ukraine in the EU

All in favour say "aye"

Out of office for a week 😜

thomholwerda,

@stroughtonsmith Dang, have fun!

thomholwerda, to random

Okay I want to move to an instance that uses one of those fancier Fedi tools that go beyond 500 characters and can use bold and underline and stuff.

thomholwerda, to random

I DID THE THING

I AM ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED AND I'M GOING TO PLAY SOME LEAGUE TO HIDE

Donate towards a PC upgrade, and you can name my computer, our Wi-Fi SSID, choose Intel or AMD for the processor, and decorate my PC with stickers. This is some serious troll potential!

set up @kde Plasma desktop on an A311D MNT Reform laptop review unit today. after a few tweaks* it works quite well.

*we need to disable the autostart configs of waybar, pasystray and other tools that we ship for sway and wayfire, change the qt5 icon theme back to breeze, set the scaling to 100% and disable some animations like morphing.

thomholwerda,

@mntmn @carlschwan @kde Super useful info, since I use KDE and would love to know how well it works!

thomholwerda, to random

I intend to launch the Ko-Fi goal for a much-needed PC upgrade today on @osnews - a mid build, nothing crazy.

The largest donator will get to name the machine, rename our Wi-Fi SSID, and gets to choose between AMD or Intel for the processor (GPU will be AMD because Linux).

Does anyone have any idea what kind of weird incentive I can give to the second largest donator?

I have no idea if anyone will donate for this but I might as well try?

thomholwerda,

@martijn @osnews The computer name would include that!

thomholwerda, to random

Terrible business idea: buy up weird architecture machines on eBay (SPARC, Itanium, Alpha, etc.) and build brand "new" workstations around them with beautiful custom cases and peripherals.

I would go bankrupt in a week but man would it be the week of a lifetime.

Jaden2, to random

Had a long ass talk with my uncle last nite.
He said ' Jaden problem with you is you to damn nice , you always say yes when these mfs ask you to do summit. That why you get all this shit dumped on you ' just say no ' they using you !
He got a point ion gon lie. But I find it difficult to say no , I hate upsetting folk.
Any of you the same?? How can you just change yall personality??????

thomholwerda,

@Jaden2 Having friends around you that know your weaknesses and step in to push you when needed is key. Ain't always easy to find those people, but once you have them, keep 'm.

The Asahi GitHub article has been updated to mention Asahi may still boot, and their latest toot mentions it too, now.

I WONDER WHY.

thomholwerda, to random

Making accounts on tchncs.de, just to send more harassment. Three posts, all harassing replies, account created today.

How sad do you have to be?

thomholwerda,

Obviously reported. First time I've ever had to report anyone on my own instance.

thomholwerda, to random

At least Asahi Linux' harassment streak led to quite a few new Mastodon followers and traffic.

Elk nadeel heb z'n voordeel. 🙃

thomholwerda, to random

Still getting abuse for a problem I did not cause. No apology, no rectification, no nothing from Asahi, who seem to enjoy this unwarranted abuse they sent my way.

Interestingly enough, in their article about this, The Register made the exact same "mistake" I did because of the deliberately unclear GitHub article, yet there's no angry posts, demands, or abuse sent their way. I guess targeting the little guys is all Asahi can do.

thomholwerda,

I use , but after the unwarranted harassment Asahi sent my way today, Fedora's active participation in Asahi is making me reconsider.

thomholwerda,

@stefano A simple "hey, this thing you said is actually wrong, but we didn't mention it in the GitHub article you're working off, so sorry about that. Could you fix it?" would've been enough. The article would've been fixed in a few minutes.

thomholwerda,

@bragefuglseth I reported on an issue Asahi discovered with a macOS update. Their GitHub post about it said it made "machines" unbootable, so I said it made Asahi unbootable.

A torrent of harassment followed.

After several hours of angry posts, it turns out they - for some reason - intentionally left out that both macOS and Asahi became unbootable, not just Asahi. They were the source of the error in my article, but have been attacking me about it all day.

thomholwerda,

@hankg Yeah I'm still utterly baffled by the animosity from Hector and their community. I've never experienced anything like it before. One of the devs (well, they seem to develop Asahi-related stuff) even went so far as to create an account at my instance just to send more harassing messages. Like, what?

As far as funding - do note some of their team members are trans, and with the state of the world, that funding might be an important lifeline for them. Just take that into account. 🙂

thomholwerda, to random

The fuck is wrong with this people?

https://mstdn.social/@osnews/111336615390098427

thomholwerda,

Fuck it. No correction. No "oops I messed up because their GitHub article is purposefully missing information".

I'm deleting every single Asahi article from OSNews, and will never report on the project again. These people and their followers are unhinged, and I'm steering clear from them for my own sanity.

Interestingly enough, I've had some well-known names in the community confirm to me in private that it's best to steer the fuck clear of Asahi. I'm following their advice.

thomholwerda,

All Asahi stories have been removed from OSNews, and I will not be covering the project for the foreseeable future. Not that it matters - our 450000/mo readers are probably peanuts compared to the big tech sites - but I will not be providing even one visit to a project that's okay with and even fans harassment over an error of their own making.

thomholwerda,

@martijn Thanks! Don't think I've ever had to do this before in the 17 years I've been doing this. 😲

thomholwerda, to random

A whole morning of attacks and harassment because a GitHub article leaves out important information and just assumes everyone can grab that information out of the fucking ether.

Reconsidering posting anything ever again about Asahi, which would suck ass, because their work is amazing and I love reading and posting about it. However, if them leaving out important info causes me harassment, I'm obviously out.

catsalad, to random

Which version of Windows runs best on an iPhone?

thomholwerda,

@catsalad Windows 3.1 for Pen Computing 1.0, obviously.
