My advice : get of that train before Google succeeds in making half of the web implement their "only allow chrome and google-approved browsers on my website" (Web Environment integrity) so they can inject ads before any site you visit just because you don't have a choice anymore 😤

@pjap37 j'utilise les services google sous Firefox sans souci (j'essaie d'ailleurs de les limiter, mais bon) j'ai même l'extension qui permet de te faire passer pour chrome pour éviter les downgrades volontaires de leur part. Mais bon la pratique est tellement révoltante que si je peux éviter google, j'évite google

@renwillis @evanpeterjones well I did it when Firerox became modern and performant again (quantum era) and never looked back. Especially since chrome's monopoly is endangering the web as a whole... Now that Firerox has uBlock and Chrome does not maybe people will reconsider...

Instagram (and meta based apps) are letting hou choose between being tracked and shown ads and paying 12.99€ per month (9.99€ if you're on the web version). It would be a good thing if the price was not a full on Netflix subscription without any of the services they provide.

The "everything on the web should be free" is the basis of current surveillance capitalism. We need to get free (get it) of it. But 12.99€ ? Who's willing to pay that for "no ads on instagram/facebook" ?

Given that instagram and facebook are both giant marketplaces for brands, even posts that are not ads have a 50% chance of being ads.

The real plan is to maje you consent to tracking. By "not chosing to pay", you're choosing to let them track you and use what you publish to train their AI models.

It's not about choice. Otherwise "Continue for free" would not be the big blue button. It's about consent. Donc give it to them.

Today I learned at my own expense that does not support yet (and thus I had to dispense a Unity Course without Unity at first, show must go on) but then at break I managed to spin up my X session again to make Unity work again. I wonder what makes it difficult to support wayland or even xwayland for their Linux package 🤔

I read that they plan to support latest Ubuntu (thus Wayland Gnome) in the future but they're not providing a roadmap there.

Anyway ; my wayland session is fine for most things (except for unity) after a few tweaks here and there to make up for a few / oddities.

@tournesol well I had to enable stuff by hand in config files and reconfigure initramfs to prevent video memory from being corrupted systematically on suspend/hibernate (text and icons where f*cked up everywhere and I needed a full reboot), and some apps wouldn't work at all unless I made tweaks (electron apps are mostly fine now, but it was not always that way). + Problems when trying to clone my display on a screen with a different resolution ( reverted back to dual screen on its own without actually cloning anything) not sure if this one had something to do with nvidia but it was a wayland-only problem on gnome.

Anyway. I'll switch back to Xorg when using Unity and the rest should be fine on wayland.
