@Reshirams_Rad_Slam Most states have laws against visibly supporting political candidates in polling places. Also many states have laws that suspend gun-free zones during elections.

I went to a meeting where the city was hosting a visioning session on safety improvements to one of the major roads in town, and everyone was unanimous that they don't want it widened and do want the cars to slow down. That's such a different vibe from the last place I lived.

Spending part of my morning writing nastygrams to businesses nearby that don't have bicycle parking but should. So far I've got the liquor store, a grocery store, and the urgent care. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.

The liquor store says they'll get bike parking if the budget allows, which it better since a $200 staple or two is a drop in the bucket considering they brought in $236.12 million in "profit" last year.

Delta's Android app sends you to an SMS thread for customer support and it has a fairly competent AI with an easy escape hatch to real people. Their iOS app has an in-app messaging thread with a garbage AI that tries to integrate with their garbage website (their log-in service is down today).

A little bit of single-family-home brain I've been experiencing: the state drivers license division doesn't have a spot for apartment number in the address field when you apply for your state ID, and the county election division requires the apartment number on your voting registration, so if you live in an apartment you can't register to vote at the same time you get your state ID.

A "fun" tidbit from the local paper: the utility had to halt transition plans to clean energy because it's paying out so much in wildfire damage settlements that it has no money. So since it can't afford clean energy, it's burning more coal, making wildfire risk worse 🙃

This is a wierd question but I thinking of redoing linux dual boot. My wifi card is currently broken so I am connecting to the internet by using my phone as tether via USB. This works suprisingly well with windows. Can anyone speak to using tethering with Linux?
It is on the arch wiki and there is a good shot it works but I only have one laptop right now and I really don't want to run pure arch.

@Inextinguishable_Ravings @GuybrushFlowers @MrHandyMan @Mike_the_Cleric Besides but related to the question, if you want to get a USB Wi-Fi antenna that isn't your phone, it's important to look up beforehand whether it works on Linux. Lots aren't in the kernel and compiling your own driver modules isn't fun.

The local paper sent out a letter saying what their election strategy is going to be, and there's this tidbit I like:

At some point, voting started to be viewed as work (the state’s GOP caucus earlier this month didn’t help).

“Get out and vote.”

“Do your duty.”

“Show up.”

Also the election strategy seems pretty decent though a bit unambitious. First, all election coverage will not be paywalled. Second, they'll give their stories to smaller news outlets all across the state. Third, they're partnering with the local Telemundo station for Spanish translations. And fourth, they'll publish candidate scorecards on various issues based on workshops with neighbors.
