Hilarious that he boosts this. Hilarious. A cis man goes and white-knights for women by attacking a trans non-binary person, then pats himself on the back for being the reasonable one. What an asshole.

Really good advice for : don't be rude.

"What should I do when the paper I'm reviewing has grammar and writing issues?"

-focus on the central purpose of your job as a reviewer
-check yourself for common biases
-give direct help if you want and can
-don't be rude!

The most common gender affirming surgery is breast augmentation -- in cis (non-trans) women.

The regret rate is around 20%.

Gender affirming surgeries in trans people have around a 1% regret rate.

Guess which people need approval from a mental health provider...

Anyone can cut off a baby boy's foreskin. Don't even need to be a doctor. That's how little value we invest as a society in the rights of children, and how hypocritical cisgender people are.

There will be some interesting legal battles in Florida unfolding and it’s not quite as cut and dry as you think.

There’s a case in the courts challenging SB254, Doe v. LADAPO, which puts an interesting legal argument forward and leans on established Supreme Court and 11th Circuit precedent.

Giving people more time on base rate problems resulted in more base rate fallacies?

Base rate problems often lure you into stereoptypic rather than probabilistic thinking. Example:

"Of all 1000 participants: 3 had a tattoo and 997 did not."
"Jay is a 29-year-old male. He has served a short time in prison. He has been living on his own for 2 years now. He has an older car and listens to punk music."
"Is it more probably that Jay has a tattoo or that Jay did not?"

Extremely hot take, but I am now leaning toward the idea that having staff statisticians can sometimes (just occasionally!) be a net negative. Study design can be warped and distorted away from theoretical importance and toward the format of common statistical techniques. I have seen it happen more than once.

“Non-medical male circumcision - what about children’s rights?” Dr. Suvianna Hakalehto, University of Helsinki

ttpphd,

Invoking the child's right to freedom of religion to justify genital cutting is illogical. In reality it is an argument for the parents to enforce the parent's religion on an unconsenting, uninformed child, violating the child's freedom of religion and right to bodily integrity.

ttpphd,
@ttpphd@mastodon.social avatar

The activism we do is to fight patriarchal traditions in which children are treated as objects owned, shaped, and controlled by their parents. Ending this oppression is important for seeing children as humans with needs, wants, interests, rights, and opinions of their own which should be given proper respect.
