I did not fully anticipate just how lonely and depressing an evil playthrough is.

I’m currently on my 3rd playthrough, and I’m playing as a dark urge character who gives into his urges. For spoiler prevention I’ll describe what I just finished as vaguely as possible. I just completed the durge objective that gives you a powerful reward in act 2....

voracitude,

Oh man. I picked The Dark Urge for my play through with my sister and I have been almost regretting it because god damn this guy is fucked up. It’s been a long time since I’ve been genuinely shocked and upset by happenings in a video game. And we’re not even that far! We just got past the Blighted Village in act 1. It’s her first time, and though I’ve finished the game once already in another run it already feels like a completely different game.

I’m glad I’m not the only one this disturbed by a story. Hats off to Larian indeed; seems like this is gonna be one uncomfortable run.

No Matter What the U.S. Does to Arm Ukraine, There Is No Path To Victory (sonar21.com)

Something a little different today. Retired Lt. Colonel Danny Davis did a virtual sit-down with me this afternoon (Thursday) and we discussed some of the latest Washington and Kiev delusional fantasies. That is the normal. The different is the Bill Walton podcast with Stephen Bryen and Erik Prince, who hit many of the themes...

voracitude,

Nobody that calls Russia’s full-scale war against and invasion of Ukraine a “special military operation” instead of what it is deserves my “precious time”. Save the sycophantic pandering for Putin and Trump, they lap it up like piss off a bedsheet.

voracitude,

Since the girl in the story that surfaced this whole thing was 14, I think

girl, 9

might be a clue.

Trump allies face skepticism as they try appealing to disaffected Arab Americans in Michigan (apnews.com)

Facing a room of Arab American activists from across the country angry at President Joe Biden’s response to the Israel-Hamas war, a well-known adviser to Donald Trump was asked this week what the former president would have done differently had he been in office....

voracitude,

Or when he claimed Arab-Americans were dancing in the streets after 9/11: washingtonpost.com/…/donald-trumps-outrageous-cla…

They’ll definitely have forgotten that by now.

voracitude,

Yeah, the product was a boondoggle. Trying to sell the company after that launch, with nothing else in the pipeline, is a scam.

voracitude,

Good luck with that. The largest economy in the world can’t even stop putting literal poison in the food. Where’s the will going to come from?

It’s going to take nothing less than a wholesale collapse, and even then most of these chucklefucks - the ones left, anyway - will be looking to get back to the way things were at any cost.

voracitude,

It’s going to come from people learning

I’m sorry, I don’t know quite how to tell you this, but uh…

voracitude,

That’s a little cruel to the child, don’t you think?

voracitude,

The hotdog poem was better 😂

(Reference for those curious, definitely worth a read)

Police say 3 people mauled in downtown Portland by pit bull after owner ordered dog to attack (www-oregonlive-com.cdn.ampproject.org)

“Police don’t know the identity of the first man who was allegedly mauled by the dog and are asking him to contact them. They also are asking anyone else with information about the incident to contact Detective Matthew Brown at matthew.brown@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-116932.”

voracitude,

Dude looks like the vampire thrall at the beginning of 30 Days of Night, and seems about as reasonable.

Democratic US lawmakers introduce bill to bar foreign payments to president (www.reuters.com)

Democratic U.S. lawmakers introduced legislation on Tuesday that would bar the president and other top officials from accepting payments from foreign governments while in office, a measure clearly aimed at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump....

I use it for troubleshooting weird errors, explaining my point when I can’t communicate well, connecting dots. For example, finding common points that link myths and legends of an unfamiliar culture, to get starting points on what to read about. This would otherwise be hours of research sifting through unrelated stuff just to find some mention of sparrows or whathaveyou.

I’m excited for AI as a technology, but not for this. I was expecting to have one trained to parse system logs and stuff, to help people troubleshoot on-device using natural language. This thing will take screenshots every few seconds? What if it misses an error screen because you close it too fast? Can it still function on a BSOD? What about 2k and 4k monitors, which will produce much larger screenshots, paired with lower-capacity SSDs for cost reasons?

I could go on, but this is just boneheaded on every level that I can see.

It’s so illegal I think it might even be sufficient to pierce the corporate veil and charge Musk directly with attempted blackmail. I mean, that’s what he’s trying to do - blackmail and extort Tesla shareholders.

voracitude,

That’s not an argument, it’s an assertion. And it’s wrong.

voracitude, (edited )

It’s not satire, I and a few others have subjected ourselves to their entire comment history to be sure - they really believe they know someone’s gender identity better than the person themselves. They’re also extremely hostile and unpleasant.

Maybe they’re trying to prove that it’s possible to have the wrong ideas for the right reasons? Like at the core this is rooted in a desire for everyone to be accepted as themselves and end transphobia, they’re just taking it to unreasonable extremes.

voracitude,

Oh, it’s still like that. Mexico just got rid of DST which resulted in some fun bugs at my workplace. And then there’s this Lunar Standard Time thing being proposed… why it can’t just use UTC, I’ll never understand…

voracitude,

I think they just got tired of everyone hating Blizzard and Sony, and decided to remind us all that we used to hate EA the most.

voracitude,

Not since the war started and they all got sent to the front (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

voracitude,

That is some Mad Max-lookin’ materiel.

voracitude,

Well now I’ve gone and personified you. Hallo, object!

voracitude,

High acceleration has… undesirable effects, let’s say, on a sack of meat and bones. “Space magic”, sure, but I’d argue that in a high-stress situation like the middle of a fight it’d be a lot less risky to move the pillar. If you fuck up calculating how much force (lol) to use, you might end up with Obi-Was instead.

voracitude,

Critical thinking skills don’t help when the data is contaminated, though. Garbage in, garbage out. And the problem isn’t going to be when someone claims something - it’s going to be when they deny. Proof in any direction can be created at will, right?

voracitude, (edited )

I know I spoke about elections specifically, but I think most of my anxiety comes from how much bigger than just politics this problem is. My concern about what we’re facing is that we, each of us, can no longer trust evidence we haven’t borne firsthand witness to. It’s more fundamental than “spin”, or anything that’s come before. The greatest periods of advancement in human history happened on the back of the printing press, the telephone, the internet. Each of those new technologies heralded an expansion of an individual’s reach until any given person could reach across the globe effectively instantaneously, allowing theretofore unprecedented levels of human collaboration. Now we have a new technology which threatens the shrinking of our individual worlds, our social circles, down to just what and who we can reach out and touch. We won’t be able to trust anyone or anything else. It sounds like living all the worst parts of a Neal Stephenson novel.
