Calling Mac users! What’s your favourite Mastodon client for macOS? 🦣

@windowsonwindows When I first set up this account, I found Whalebird was the best out of the options at the time. Lately, I've found it a bit clunky in appearance and function. Mona seems nice, but I don't want to pay for it in the long term. Now trying Manny, which is similar, with the advantage of it being free! However, it seems to have an input lag when typing…? I've had to type this v e r y s l o w l y . . .

@franksmcb Thanks! Tried Ivory, but don't like the subscription model. As for Ice Cubes, I'll check that out! Update: Ah, Ice Cubes appears to be M1/M2 only…

The Microsoft Hearts Network (later, simply Hearts) was a card game introduced in Windows for Workgroups 3.1 (1992). It aimed to showcase the OS’s new networking features, by allowing multiplayer games over a network. It is no longer included in Windows as of Windows 8 (2012). ❤️

Have we ever posted a Windows fact you didn’t know? 👀

Windows has an undocumented “Emergency Shutdown” feature. Though info is scarce, it existed at least as far back as Windows NT 3.51 (1995). To access it, a user must press Ctrl+Alt+Delete & click Shut Down whilst holding Ctrl. After confirming, the system immediately shuts down.

@mitt_rafael Twitter will probably continue to be my main until it inevitably dies. 😆 Then, I’ll probably main here. Mastodon is still my favourite alternative to Twitter thus far! 🦣💪

@mitt_rafael That’s definitely true about Mastodon - it feels so much more personal! I honestly do love it here on a personal level (content aside). 😃

Windows 3 build 33, from 27th July 1989, is the last known build of Windows to use its original shell - the MS-DOS Executive. This would be replaced by the new Program Manager in time for 3’s final release. This build’s boot screen displays the message “We Believe in Magic!”. 🪄

Microsoft often uses slogans to market new Windows releases. Famous examples are Windows XP’s “Yes you can” (2001) & Windows Vista’s “The ‘Wow’ starts now” (2006). Others include Windows 7’s “Your PC, simplified” (2009) & Windows 11’s “Brings you closer to what you love” (2021).

Windows 95 (1995) introduced a new Windows user interface design, retroactively referred to as Windows Classic. It brought a 3D look & feel, inspired by NeXT's NeXTSTEP operating system (1988-97). Windows Classic served as the default Windows UI design until Windows XP (2001). 🖌️

Windows 2000 (1999) updated the default Windows Classic theme: the original grey colour changed to beige, title bars became a lighter shade of blue & the font Tahoma replaced MS Sans Serif. This is how the default Classic theme would remain until its removal in Windows 8 (2012).
