zod000,

TIL about the artificial sweetener thing, this explains a lot. I have never been able to understand people enjoying diet soda.

zod000,

Everyone calls it “KMFDM - symbols” for a reason. I agree only in that it drives me insane when I would rip CDs and have to deal with trying to figure out what to name them. Also, fuck Leæther Strip for their stupid “æ” in the name.

zod000,

I played through the public test quite a bit with a friend. This is a really good (and difficult) update.

zod000,

It also helps that one of the patches toned down the spawn rate. It was just insane trying to get an initial base going.

zod000,

Interesting, I guess that could make sense that the spreading fire would be a constant noise/aggro generator.

zod000,

I feel personally attacked by this post!

zod000,

My friend has probably this exact TV in their family home until probably the early 2000s. I bet it was because no one wanted to move it.

zod000,

This was it exactly in my head as well, there was no question.

zod000,

The headphone port is one of the reasons I’m considering an Xperia next. My Pixel 4a battery life is feeling pretty rough.

zod000,

Even though I wasn’t a fan of their modified Gnome DE, I really like the distro as a whole. It made it seamless to use both AMD and Nvidia cards, Steam worked out of the box, and I had no issues with using Ubuntu or Debian repos. I’m not sure whether I’ll use Cosmic or not, but I’ll probably give it a fair try eventually.

zod000,

Mine too, but the lack of headphone jack kills it for me. I may end up getting an expensive Sony as there aren’t many choices left that aren’t gigantic garbage phones.

zod000,

Glad I didn’t buy into the hype on this one.

zod000,

Untrue, they also work in Nethack and other rogue-likes!

zod000,

Our sister company had their VPN broken by this and we had to switch to another system. Even though it wasn’t a particularly secure VPN (IPSec), the builtin Windows VPN was extremely reliable and convenience compared to shit like Pulse.

zod000,

I concur completely. I mean, I like Morrowind quite a bit, but coming from playing 1000 hours in Daggerfall and seeing this tiny simplified, constrained game world in the sequel was disheartening. The fact that everything since has been so much worse in that regard had made Morrowind age pretty well I suppose.

zod000,

Maybe they just got a statement by “Most Men Lawn Service” or something.

zod000, (edited )

I like to think of the Earth more as a pizza roll. Eating one right out of the oven sure feels like tasting magma to me.

zod000,

I have always loved FB2K, but I didn’t like using it in linux. It was slow to start (which is snap’s fault) and was tough to get working in a stable state once I started trying to use components that I prefer (probably wine’s fault, but who knows).

zod000,

Probably a bit late, but I really like Quod Libet. It is very extensible, runs light, has excellent tagging and filtering, and just feels similar enough to how I set up my foobar2000.

What's a band that has one album that is just about perfect in your opinion, but rest of their discography misses the mark with you?

One of mine is Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack. I basically took the title verbatim and know the album word for word. And while I would love if it did, the rest of MCS’s stuff just doesn’t hit the same way....

zod000,

Yes, because the dogshit molecules are obviously more jiggly in hot dogshit and that’s just gross.

zod000,

I prefer Rated R and Lullabies to Paralyze to Songs for the Deaf. Fight me.

What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?

I’m working on a some materials for a class wherein I’ll be teaching some young, wide-eyed Windows nerds about Linux and we’re including a section we’re calling “foot guns”. Basically it’s ways you might shoot yourself in the foot while meddling with your newfound Linux powers....

zod000,

I’ve lived through this one. Fixing it required me taking a full day off to suffer.

zod000,

When the black album came out, Metallic instantly went from legit thrash band to top 40 hard rock and was on the radio all day everyday… and somehow they still are and it’s baffling.

zod000,

I switched from Win7 to Linux, but you are right, few stuck to their guns on that threat. My only Windows machine now is a work laptop that I have to use for some tasks. Admittedly, even Win 10 is looking good now compared to Win11. MS is doing a bang up job as being consumer antagonists.

zod000,

I went through so many feet on my old MX510 and MX518 that I bought a huge roll of 1/2" wide industrial teflon tape to put over the feet. The newer models have much bigger and thicker feet so that’s not needed anymore, but man those old ones wore away quick.
