givesomefucks,

Bruh…

His license was suspended and the hearing was to delay his reporting to jail by 4 weeks…

And he didn’t show up to the courthouse like he was supposed to, then face timed in while driving…

He was already sentenced to jail, he just didn’t have to report yet.

Like, the court date wasn’t just for driving with a suspended license. It was for whatever caused him to already lose his license and get sent to jail.

So the judge ruled against his request for delay and ordered him to report to jail that evening.

FiremanEdsRevenge,

Obvious bait is obvious.

True, but I imagine it'll be hard to campaign across the nation with house arrest.

BobaFuttbucker,

Wild that the constitution disqualifies people with “high crimes or misdemeanors” but not felonies.

m0darn,

Conservatives deserve a candidate that isn’t a felon

mipadaitu,

Only 1 in 6 voters would change their mind about a convicted fraudster becoming the most powerful person in the country? And only after ANOTHER guilty verdict?

If allowing over 300,000 people to die by a manageable pandemic didn't change their minds.

If two impeachments didn't change their minds.

If the campaign trail consisting of yelling about babbling nonsense didn't change their minds.

If being induced to get involved in an insurrection where now many members are finding themselves jailed didn't change their minds.

What makes anyone think a guilty verdict would?

noodlejetski,

I expect that you’ll have to pay the money according to the statement

Ioughttamow,

Thank fuck. Finally

TIL in the Carboniferous Period, no fungus existed to decompose trees. They just grew on top of each other up and up.

The weight of the trees was so great that the ones on the bottom got squished and became coal. That’s where coal is from. Bonus fact: the whole time this was happening, sharks were hunting in the oceans. Sharks are older than trees and fungus!

Initially after the attack, the Laax had listed its destination as Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. On Thursday, however, its listed destination instead appeared to be Bandar Khomeini, Iran.

Hmm.

Is it possible that they just diverted as a result of the attack? I mean, they got attacked and the ship was damaged. That’s not business as usual. That might have affected the delivery schedule or other things that might affect the destination. It might mean that they wanted to head to a port that could do some kind of repair work.

NotAnotherLemmyUser,

Civil asset forfeiture in the U.S.

We’re supposed to be “innocent until proven guilty” but they get around this by saying that they’re essentially accusing the money (or car/home or whatever) of being used for crime. Then they confiscate it and the only way to get it back is to go to court and prove that your money is innocent.

The fact that cash/possessions can be taken away from you at anytime by federal agents (or by police in almost every State) without having to follow it up with any sort of case to prove that a crime occurred is ridiculous. And on top of that you can’t get the money back that you spent on attorney fees, so it’s pointless to spend money on an attorney if what was taken was less than a few thousand dollars.

Most people don’t know that this can happen or don’t seem to care enough because, “it would never happen to me, right?”
