GromitTheOmlette, to fediverse

I have created this KBin magazine in light of the recent Reddit API protests; the magazine is essentially a dedicated place in the off chance the Fediverse ever has to mobilize to defend ourselves. Feel free to subscribe if you want to, or don't if you don't. The only point of its existence is essentially to be a reserve force.

GromitTheOmlette, to FediversePatrol

A brief explanation of the Fediverse Patrol's meaning and motives.

Yes, as anyone here may suspect, this was created in light of the recent antics by Reddit in their API changes. As it has been proven here, the Fediverse is a very unique space of the internet in the regard that it is completely decentralized and difficult to control. However, there is still a burning thought in the back of my head when I think of this place.

It is of my own belief that the Fediverse will someday become the new social media, as it is truly free from corporations and advertising. Of course, it should be no surprise that I also believe this may not be looked upon favorably by those who yearn for power. In recent years, we have seen time and time again their attempts to restrict the internet (Article 13, Net neutrality, API changes, the RESTRICT Act, just to name a few); I am afraid that the Fediverse will eventually be threatened with this same attack.

Whether it be one year from now, five years, ten, or even twenty, I have a gut feeling that someday a place like this will come in handy.

One of the glaring issues I've seen with the recent Reddit API protests are that the communication has been sparse at best. Sure, r/save3rdpartyapps exists, and a few Discord servers here and there, but there is no dedicated organization, no 100% clear structure, and no easy way to lead the charge. I want us to be ready if a time ever comes that we must do the same, so I am creating this place here and now.

This place is meant to be a reserve force; don't be afraid to subscribe and signify that you are willing to be a part of that force. I truly do hope that we never have to use this, but as I have said countless times, I want the Fediverse to be prepared.

In my short time using the Fediverse, I am truly growing to love it, and I want to see this place stand the test of time. Thank you to anyone who is willing to align themselves here.

Thank you so much for your support! 😍

I just saw an email from Buy Me a Coffee. Not just one. I went in, and I'm truly shocked. Thank you all for the support; I would like to thank each and every one of you individually someday. Honestly, I don't know what to say. The account balance is $350, which will definitely allow me to develop kbin faster or at least not...

GromitTheOmlette,

@ernest sorry if that isn't the right way to reach you by the way, I'm still getting used to this

Hey man idk how large your community is working on kbin here. Another user from Reddit migrating and I truly want to see this turn into the best version possible. Reddit was build by its mods, and it's pretty clear kbin will need that type of structure; someone has to take the first steps, essentially. In all honesty I have no experience with anything software related really and all I have is a garbage fucking laptop but I'd like to help with this site in any way so if you need it, let me know. Maybe it's simple stuff, but I imagine that any assistance helps tremendously. If you'd like me to, I can mass post on Reddit to get other mods that are migrating on board with doing the same, but I am of course not them, so I can't make any promises there. Good luck to you, and I hope this project turns into something amazing.
