It's not much of privacy I'm concerned about as much as community and visibility.
Meta is infamous for fostering insufferable users, meanwhile from what I have seen from kbin and lemmy, there is a lot more nuance and maturity in the communities here (for the most part) that I would hate to see overun by Thread users.
Secondly, it's one thing to be visible to the internet in general, but to have anything tied to Meta that they can scrape and sell is a concern to me. The fact that the fediverse is a prototype with vulnerabilities makes the likelihood of a company like Meta, who intentionally exploits vulnerabilities to harvest data, all the more likely.
Finally, almost every example of a large company joining a federation always ends with said company cannibalizing the federated networks, and I have no reason to believe Facebook won't do this. If I'm going to invest time and effort into making a community grow, I would rather not waste my time on a platform that is doomed to be consumed.
Here's what you don't seem to understand Mastodon. When I left Facebook all those years ago, I wanted a total separation. I wanted any data I could possibly obtain to be eradicated from their platform, I did not want to interact with anyone on their platform, and I did not want to be visible to that platform as much as I possibly could.
There are already privacy concerns on the greater fediverse, and to think that Meta won't take full advantage of those is incredibly naive, almost intentionally ignorant. Even if EEE wasn't a concern to you (and it should be,) The draw of your platform was the fact of rather than being influenced by a single corporation, fediverse was supposed to be a decentralized network of small communities who together could build each other up into a thriving network. By allowing Threads in, you are ultimately dooming yourself to become an orbit of meta.
In our highly capitalistic society, the goal is to either kill or eat the competition. You've essentially invited the wolf into the flock, and no amount of telling us how fluffy and cute they are is going to make me see past the teeth.
I personally am quite against it. I joined Lemmy to stay away from the toxicity on Meta’s platforms. I don’t want any corporate bodies on the fediverse either and possibly doing to the fediverse what Google did to XMPP
There’s been a lot of speculation around what Threads will be and what it means for Mastodon. We’ve put together some of the most common questions and our responses based on what was launched today.
If Mastodon or Kbin federates with Meta, I leave. The whole point I came here was to escape the enshitification of the internet that tech giants bring. Meta was the first I left, and I would sooner go full ludite than be forced to engage with their data robbing platforms again.
I just won't be apart of any instance that chooses to be federated with Meta. There are many people like me, and I hope kbin and most lemmy instance owners are aware of this.
Say what you want about Sonic games, especially modern ones. The OSTs often slap. Even if the game isn't worth playing, the music is definitely worth a listen.

Plus it's not even that useful of a statement in this day and age. Google isn't what it used to be, and even if it was, a lot of time it struggled with very specific and detailed problems. It would often just point you to the community where you were told to "google it"
I’m a mod from r/TheArmedGayAgenda subreddit it’s for lgbt+ firearms owners, we’re working on our own lemmy instance but I was curious if we’d be welcome setting up a community here?
Could we get official word on what Kbin's stance is towards federating with Meta?
I would like to know if I can feel safe here, or if I should pack it up and start looking elsewhere sooner rather than later....

The "just google it" mantra has probably held back quite a lot of interesting conversations and debate
