The opening stage theme for the upcoming fangame: Megaman: Perfect Blue. I usually don't get that excited for fangames, but the unique graphic style, fun demo, and Kicking OST has me looking forward to this one.
My favorite song from VVVVVV. The entire soundtrack is amazing, but this song in particular, it's hard to describe, but if I could best describe the vibe, it would be "comforting danger."
What game had a better OST than it had any right to?
The Flintstones and Waterworld for the SNES have some of the most tranquil OSTs on the SNES. There are songs that sound like they belong on DKC2 rather than these shovelware titles.
No joke, the manual for the original pokemon games was one of the best gaming manuals ever created. Not only did it explain everything, but it contained a lot of cool art work that really sold the game world to you. I still remember coming home from the dentist, high af from the nitrous oxide, flipping through the Pokemon yellow manual, and wanting to get home as quick as possible so I could try out my new gameboy color!
The target of keeping long-term global warming within 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) is moving out of reach, climate experts say, with nations failing to set more ambitious goals.
Why do you think the Saudis are pouring so much resources into these experimental line cities? Even they know that the system they helped create and benefited from is unsustainable, and building a self contained city in the middle of the desert is them testing the hypothesis of, can you build a habitable zone for humans in the worst case scenario of environments?
It also ties into why there are so many billionaires who are obsessed in advancing space travel as quickly as possible. Even they are starting to get nervous about the Earth they have created and will have to live in.
So YouTube has a lot of problems, there's no denying that. Frivolous and selective (not to mention automated) copyright enforcement, bureaucratic termination appeal system, COPPA idiocy, the whole clusterfuck that is monetization, etc?...
I would love for a youtube alternative to take off, but there is definitely more challenges to that than creating a reddit alternative.
The reason you go to youtube is to watch videos by your favorite creators, which are on the platform in the first places because they are getting payed. And there in lies the problem of a decentralized video platform. There is no central way of monetizing creations, hence alternate ways of monetization such as patronizing and sponsorships would be a must. But then even after all that, there actually has to be an audience to make it worth the creator's while. There's no creators cause there's no audience, and there is no audience cause there are no creators.
Secondly, as it stands now, most youtube alternatives have bad reputations. It's either youtube but shittier, youtube but right wing conspiracies, or youtube but all scams and all crypto. A lot of creators don't go off youtube unless they have to, which usually means they got banned. Hence they will go to a platform that will tolerate their behavior, or that is completely unregulated.
We may see a youtube alternative take off, but I think we might sooner see a decentralized Tik Tok or Vine gain traction faster due to the lower barrier of entry of those platforms. Long form videos can cost money to produce which weeds out most hobbyists, but any teenager with a phone can make a tik tok.
The best part of video games back in the day was making memories with your friends, now it all feels like structured fun. “This is how you play the game and this is when you are supposed to have fun” Idk if that makes sense.
Aside from nintendo related products, I have stopped playing most AAA titles for this reason. The only reason I have stuck with nintendo is because I can still get excited and be impressed with what they release, though this isn't as much of a guarantee as it used to be.
I usually play indie games when I'm looking for something fresh, or I play retro titles when I want to revisit my roots and remind myself why I fell in love with gaming in the first place.
I also have a selection of comfort titles I reach for when I'm feeling down and nothing else is bringing me joy. Stardew Valley, Earthbound, Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Skyrim are my shortlist.
First post on kbin. Sorry if this ends up somewhere it shouldn't. Still figuring things out.
I don't think I'm ready to leave reddit completely, but I don't want to stay there. My compromise has been to bookmark niche subs that still don't have an active equivalent on fediverse or elsewhere. At the very least, I don't have to settle for the insufferable communities on reddit when better communities exist here. So long r/nintendo, r/pokemon.
I find myself doing far less doomscrolling on one site now, and more popping into different places on different sites like I used to pre social media hubs. I might visit my hometowns sub or r/ADHD on reddit, read about current events or gaming news here, and pop into tildes for pleasant conversation. All in all, if there is one positive thing the reddit enshitening has caused, its for the web to feel less centralized and a little more like 2008's internet.
@Green_Footballs I wish there was literally anyone else I could vote for who wasn't actively awful, and who had a chance at winning. I'm really tired of the election choices being "everything gets worse" and "everything gets worse, but faster"
It depends on the instance you are using. Kbin.social shows the upvote/downvote ratio, while most lemmy instances do not. Still a lot I'm learning about these site.
Funny enough, last December, I predicted there would be another Big Social migration to the Fediverse. I even predicted it would happen in June.
I just didn’t think that Reddit, of all platforms, would be the one to cause the migration.
Big Social has a habit of creating shitty user experiences, and attempting to squeeze every bit of ARPU possible.
Until recently, if you didn’t like it, your only option was to kick rocks.
Reddit doesn’t give a damn. There have been plenty of Reddit alternatives in the past, and almost all of them have crashed and burned.
Except this time, when people join #Lemmy and #kbin, they are interacting with a network of 10 million Fediverse accounts – possibly more. No Reddit alternative has ever had 10 million accounts.
Understand this. Even if Lemmy and /kbin make up an insignificant chunk of the Fediverse right now, everyone who uses those services can talk to 10+ million Fediverse accounts.
Which means that this time Reddit detractors have serious options.
And believe me, more Big Social platforms will cause further migrations to the Fediverse. Each time this happens, that detraction will compound more and more.
Reddit probably doesn’t think this is a big deal. They probably think this is like the other times users expressed dissent.
But this time, these Redditors are discovering the Fediverse.
@jedistocky Also, they have their own holes to slink back to if they ever got sick of the site. The hardest part of finding a reddit alternative is so many of them are just right wing alternatives for people to post conspiracies and slurs.
I think this illustrates why this isn't a replacement for reddit for many people. The point of reddit is it brought community and discussion to one site. It's what killed decentralized forums, and sadly, I don't think the average user is going to go back to that.
Are upvotes counting towards your reputation now?
Logged in a few minutes ago and noticed that reputation in my account was much higher then before. Guessing it might be counted now.
Congrats to all 3 of us

If we call reddit users redditors, what do we call lemmy users
A lot of people say fedditors but that sounds way too derivative of reddit

An amazing remix from the jazzy my town theme for the upcoming Deltarune chapters. IDK, something about this song in general makes me feel safe.

Love the Splatoon 3 OST, and Loeder puts out some amazing chiptunes and remixes. Hope posting remixes is okay in this community.
Anyone else dismayed by the limited success and adoption of Odysee (YT alternative) when it comes to Reddit alternatives?
