I remember hearing an interview with him many years ago, and he shared a story about the shenanigans he got up to as a kid... he was into phone phreaking (used to be you could control the entire phone system by playing specific tones into any phone) and reprogrammed the phone system to think his friend's home phone was a pay phone. His friend's mom would try to call someone and the phone would ask her to deposit 20c. She was furious, and sent her son over to demand he fix it immediately.

I always thought that was one of the best pranks ever. RIP to a legend.

Keeping a grizzly away from peanut butter for an hour is an accomplishment.

Hilarious that this guy figured out a genuinely useful way to put deviant rescue bears to work and help fund their habitat

Firing people will surely ingratiate himself to his base.

It belongs to a friend who needs glasses but doesn't like wearing them. She thought she bought honey until she tasted it.

It seems crazy to me that currently it takes just 50%+1 to change the state constitution. That being said, fast-tracking a special election to raise the threshold to 60% before an amendment polling at 59% goes to the vote is the worst kind of anti-democratic behavior. They're trying to change the rules halfway through the attempt.

Views for Tucker Carlson’s new Twitter show have dropped 86 percent since its launch (deadstate.org)

His first show brought in over 26 million “video views,” which is a Twitter metric that records a view as anyone who watches a video for more than 2 seconds. While the metric’s reliability has been questioned, it has nevertheless declined significantly since the show’s launch, with Carlson’s most recent show only...

I want to see how many people have less than 10 or 15 sec watch time... like how many "video views" are just the video autoplaying in someone's feed as they scroll by?

3.8 mil "video views" is still more than the 3.3 mil viewers he got on Fox, but >2 sec is such a trash metric that I really have no idea how many people are actually watching.

After escaping from a mental institution in 1945, he went into business

That explains the bottles.

Seriously though, glad he got out. His ramblings were coming from a good heart and his soap is legendary.

I suspect it has to do with legal compliance. Only available in US = only needing to comply with US law.

Threads is looking into adding an alternative home feed, of only posts, in chronological order, from the people each individual user follows

I'm so confused as to why this (or something resembling this) isn't default behavior.

It got hacked. Seems to be better now.

I heard several instances were affected

I can think of several reasons off the top of my head.

Perhaps you want to discuss things your boss doesn't want employees talking about (teachers discussing drugs/alcohol/nsfw stuff or anyone trash-talking their employer).

Perhaps you want to discuss things your family/friends don't approve of (closeted LGBT, political opinions, drugs/nsfw, mental health, even stuff like motorcycles).

Perhaps you want to discuss controversial topics and reduce the chance of having some lunatic send you death threats.

Lemmygrad is extreme left to the point that a lot of instances have defederated with them.

I have zero interest in the micro-transaction VTT that WoTC seems to be moving towards. If they quit supporting pencil & paper tables, we'll stick with 5e/pf2e

I imagine they'll make giant fistfuls of money though. Lowing the bar to play by having the server deal with the crunch, gee-whiz graphics, customizable avatars .. I suspect they'll onboard a bunch of Fortnite kids who are used to paying for skins.

Get off my lawn. We used to play D&D uphill.

Good. Malicious false police reports can destroy lives. It sounds like in this case, store security footage cleared the victims' names quickly, but not everyone is so lucky.

I really hope something comes of this. The fake electors are a WAY bigger deal than the documents case.

He raises some good questions about the fact that for-profit entities are acting as the public arbiter of truth. Unfortunately for his argument, vaccine denialism (like his) is Exhibit A for the "information needs to be regulated" argument.

I do think we should be wary of letting Facebook decide what is or isn't "disinformation", but the last 10 years have shown that we need some kind of public information filter. I just don't want Robert Kennedy to be involved in it.

Meh, your profile tells me

  1. people don't want to hear about the Mormon Church

  2. people are touchy af about fascism, people standing near fascists, and people who argue that what's happening in Florida isn't technically fascist.

  3. people who downvoted you because of 1 and 2 didn't down vote your whole comment history.
