hanj,

Death is not something to be feared. Suffering makes sense to fear, sure, but death? I was watching a silly TV show last night and they quoted a Chinese proverb. "All of life is a walking dream. All of death is a coming home."

Death is a great rest awaiting you at the end of life, my friend. It is not a punishment, and maybe even somewhat of a reward. You can relax and feel safe with one of life's few certainties. We all die; it brings us together.

Have a good one.

hanj,

That sounds like a most extreme version of what I've experienced. Do you hang out with ppl online at all? Down to talk to a rando if you got time this wknd.

OC Past Lives (saltednotion.wordpress.com)

I think me at twelve would have been appalled that anyone would ever choose X over love, X being that space in a heart where one’s highest passion is placed, a silver candlestick perhaps, a normal hammer, or simply The Thimble. A space more natural than life. A house of worship where only one may tread, ivy alms caressing...

hanj,

In reality it doesn't work out that way though. What actually happens is that the deepest pockets are the ones who can patent everything under the sun, and who can buy out all the poor copyright holders at bargain prices.

In theory it can work, if there are sufficient regulations on what can be patented, and anti-trust policies. But again, in reality the holders of capital rewrite the laws in their favor because money is liquid and industries are porous.

These sorts of laws favor the wealthy, at least in practice.

Intellectual Property should be abolished - change my mind!

I am strongly convinced that the possession of ideas and creations of the intellect is not possible. In my opinion, only physical things can be possessed, that is, things that are limited, that is, that can only be in one place. The power or the freedom to do with the object what one wants corresponds to the concept of...

hanj,

While I agree, the usual argument is that intellectual property provides an important incentive to creative types and the patrons who would fund their work. A total abolition of intellectual property could only be coupled with a massive shift in how modern societies function, including a universal basic income and automated labor, completely divorced from scarcity and competition. Less extreme changes, such as scaling down the number of years that IP can be claimed, are probably feasible but I can't imagine any of these being popular with the centers of wealth that already own their share. Are you after a white room discussion on the ethical merits of IP abolition or are you more of an activist looking to brainstorm how to nudge society in that direction?

hanj,

Nice, I like doing it in stages and I like the idealism. Saw you provoked some discussion over on a piracy community I sub to. Good stuff, keep at it!

hanj,

Fav right now is probably It That Follows. I really like a lot of the set choices and the concept itself.

But for all the people looking for a movie they haven't heard of try Pontypool. It's an odd take on an infection movie. It won't top your list but you'll see some different things.

Am I (24M) being delusional over possibilities of a relationship with my crush (21F)?

Long story short: we have been meeting each other for a while for semi-professional reasons, around two years now, although we only got close in the recent months. We have a very strong group of friends thanks to which we interacted a lot recently....

hanj,

I wrote a long comment that got lost. Uh...

TLDR If the feeling is mutual it's about not fumbling the ball more than racing to the finish line. Work on yourself if you aren't proud of who you are. Strengthen friendships, especially mutual ones. Treasure the feeling and be kind to both of you.

hanj,

Ah yeah I can't remember everything I wrote. I was a long the lines of what some people are saying, "take it slow". IMO don't bury your feelings or fully expose them.

It's a little paradoxical sometimes. The more important your time is with someone, the slower you go. Because that means you consider it precious. If you just go for it in a way it means you are prepared to lose them. Of course you can wait too long, but as long as day to day is happy and nothing is between you, I hope you can progress in a natural way.

Perhaps you can be honest about your feeling without being forceful. Just show genuine happiness, prioritize time, and your friends can catch on. Then if there is an issue someone can tell you discreetly. And if you let it out slowly you have time as you say, to understand the feelings. And maybe she is also unsure, who knows?

I wish you good luck. I hope you dodge any ugliness and no matter what happens you can look back in years and smile about it.

hanj,

yoo van zandt, nice
But yeah agree, federales is already a word and an ill-fitting one.

hanj,

Agree, pacing overall was unsatisfying. Five short chapters is a good idea in theory, but each climax felt very same-y as the others so it began to feel repetitive. Also, so many emotional beats were drawn out way too long. But perhaps I have been overtrained by mainstream media to only expect only one heartfelt conversation per story.

But yeah, like the best animation I've ever seen. So, still worth.
