FoundryVTT V11.304 update

Foundry just released build 304 for V11 (stable). There aren't any major changes other than minor improvement and fixes. As usual, following the steps for a safe and secure update is strongly recommended (backup before maintenance, remember). For support, you can reach out to me (directly or over on the magazine, or over on the official Discord

V10 EOL update

Yesterday the devs released the latest (and last) update of V10, backporting some fixes from V11 and improving some security errors and the like. This is announced to be the last of V10 updates. As usual, full release notes here

Seeing all of these folks talk about "defederation" from Meta before they even get to the is quite sad and hilarious all at the same time.

While I won't give me exact thoughts right now as I will likely do that tomorrow, y'all need to get a grip on yourselves.

Let them get here, see how it goes, see what happens, and then decide. But making a decision right NOW, in my opinion is ridiculous for a LOT of reasons.

You're just assuming and hoping at this point. SAD SAD SAD!

@cliffwade True that individual users need the right to have a choice. Which is why I believe it's good that the discussion is happening now, so that people who disagree with their server's admins have the time to migrate accounts to a server that follows more closely their way of seeing things. It's part of the way the Fediverse work. You don't like something? You can move somewhere else, or even spin up your own server with your own rules (I'll admit this last option is limited for most people, but it's also an extreme solution).

As for the matter at hand, I personally wouldn't call other people's feelings or ideas "silly". I believe there's good arguments for and against deciding now whether to defederate Meta from the get-go or wait until it inevitably shows that its business model is predatory. But even though to me this latter is an inevitability, I would never say that someone who wants to "wait and see" is silly, or sad, or ridiculous.

I am currently having issues with my instance. Upon upgrading to the new version, I cannot see any existing scene, though actors and other items are correctly ported over. Looking up online, it seems like it could be an issue with some modules. I tried disabling and reenabling all of them (though they are disabled by default), but it seems to not solve the issue.
Most likely I'll try to manually uninstall them (not disable) while still in V10, upgrade to V11 + upgrade PF2 to v5, and only then reinstall the modules (if scenes load correctly).
I'll keep y'all posted

Can confirm it was the modules (of course). Uninstalling (not just disabling) seemed to work. Now however, I am having some instability and since I don't have the time to test whether it's Foundry, PF2e system or a module (all of which I kind of need), I reverted everything back to my latest stable backup. Hope you all are having a stabler experience, I'm not very lucky with these things unfortunately!

A lot depends on the type of play you and your players are looking for. Surely reading the whole thing helps.
Having run Rise of the Runelords for 3 players (later 2, then 3 again), I have to say most of my efforts went into personalizing the experience. I did my best to change events based on players' choices, shortened certain arcs and lengthened others (I had to get the guide to Sandpoint because they absolutely loved that little town, bless their hearts). I even re-wrote book 6, since it was too much of a dungeoncrawl (and I did not like the starting location of the book, it didn't feel like it fit the narrative), after another huge dungeoncrawl that is book 5 (AMAZING).
But there were also sessions where I didn't have to do much, just read through the pages, manage the encounters and go with the flow, because the books are pretty well written.
My biggest piece of advice would be to have organized notes. Both to keep while reading the adventure through, and while running it. It helps a ton to keep the players immersed if you as a GM are able to keep track of things and properly foreshadow events and enemies (especially enemies, that was an issue with RotRl)

Idk, Mastodon is much bigger than kbin (I think we’re talking 10x at this point), and as far as I know it’s still running fine on donations through Patreon or the like.
But as long as it doesn’t change the way content is moderated/handled in the site, I’d still be fine with a sponsor or with ads (as long as there’s an option, even paid, to disable them).

Why are you not seeing as many posts from Lemmy communities on Kbin?

Hello! You may have noticed that the majority of posts and threads in your feed on Kbin are from within the platform itself. This is because the admin has activated Cloudflare DDoS protection which basically slows down requests to kbin, to prevent the website from experiencing downtime or becoming slow to respond....

My guess would be that it’s something that can be done, but more in the future. As of right now, I think that would only “move” the problem and any spike in traffic from other instances would still cause crashes.
This is a guess from my technical knowledge though.

I’ll do my best! Unfortunately, I’ve been a lurker for most of my years, so I’m not very used to all of this

What is this, and why did I make it?

As many of you probably know, Reddit is currently in a bad state. 3rd party APIs will soon begin to cost so much that any app that isn't the official one has pretty much already announced it will shut down, and the AMA held by the CEO was even worse than (at least I) thought. Seeing as FoundryVTT had a smaller community than...
