So I am in a "Right to Work" State and I have thought about this for a minute now... Given the support is there, how hard is it to start a union in a particular field/industry in a city? I have been in Tech and IT for the last +10 years and I while I havent met too many Union Deniers, no one seems to know why there is no Tech Unions out here. Is there a place I could reach out for guidance?
So while I understand the love for FOSS and an Ad Free Experience, somebody still has to pay for the server time. Now I know this doesnt exactly work in THIS scenario with Sync, but couldnt ads and paid subs in Apps be a good way for Lemmy/KBin instances for be financed without having to rely on donations?
For Example, imagine if Lemmy.ml had their own app with their own experience and if you wanted to support it without actually handing over money, now you could use ads in the mobile experience and feel a little better about your lurking.
I can't either! I got bit by the audiobook big a few months ago and jumped into MAM and it's been fantastic! Half the books are looked behind their VIP section, but it's super easy to get that status of your seed consistently. I was given literally 1000s of their bonus points from other members just for hanging around their forums for a few post. Bought my VIP status with the bonus points, and now I log in every month or so and convert my points to top of my VIP status and then dump the rest into my Ratio
Third party apps that are still working are most likely going to get hit with a bill on August 1st they were not prepared for. Reddit knows which applications are using the API keys so they know where to send the bill. But the changes took effect on July 1st. The apps that shut down before the first did so because the developer killed their API key so they wouldn't occur any charges.
You can get yourself a 1L pc from Dell, Lenovo, or HP 8th gen or newer for pretty cheap. Great little work horses. You can find Dell Optiplexes on any second hand sites in your area really cheap too.
But in all reality, the old machine you already have is the best solution. If you got an old computer from an upgrade years ago, that's great to play on
Let's say we're at a place where personal AI is a thing. You can have it speak with any voice from any person in history or any media without any copyright issues or the like. Who would you want to voice yours?...
Strange New Worlds has also captured the magic that was Old Trek. And I am talking about the magic of the TOS! Definitely worth a check out. But I can agree that Disco and Picard are not for everyone.
Disco - New Trek for a New Audience.
Picard - Love letter for people who wanted an endcap to TNG and their favorite captain.
Lowerdecks - Pure Nostalgic fun!
New Worlds - Back to the original formula but this time with a VFX Budget.
I don't really like Windows but it's for my gaming PC. My laptop does run linux. I don't know much of anything about 11 and whether it's better or not.
Personally, once I installed a new task bar (StartAllBack for me but there are other free options) the transition was seemless for me. I also use my machine for gaming and work so keeping it all up to date is important to me. As for all the M$ Tracking bullshit, there are PS Scripts out there to disable them and I also PiHole them as well. If you look at it that way, its really a lot more like a feature upgrade to 10.
I think you would HAVE to pull it right? Regardless of how many times the lever can be given to the next person, you are either killing 1/3rd lives in the scenario, or you are killing 1/8bil.
I hate advertisements so much.
This is the main reason I don't have cable. I couldn't wrap my brain around the concept of paying for content full of ads.
I paid for youTube premium but I'm about to give up on that too since you may skip the inserted ads there are still all of the sponsors. And I can't be mad at creators for wanting to make some money but I really need to escape these ads.
Because ads work -- most people assume they don't but they do. They change you.
@futurebird While I can agree with your sentiment, I would have to say that IMO Sponsorships are better than ads. I dont mind if creators are getting paid by their own sponsorships, and a lot of the content creators I watch also know their audience doesnt like any of it either. So they tend to be a little less intrusive, cater to their audience, or easier to skip/predict. Plus the creators that only push Raid Shadow Legends, or World of Tanks Etc, are so obnoxious, I usually stop watching their content anyways. Its almost like a litmus test if a channel starts using cringy ads, then the channel is kinda going down hill.
