Left) Opal-CT lithic material from a thin (10-15 cm) ledge of rock uncovered at Fort Johnson, Vernon Parish, LA. It is possibly Fleming opal. Right) Banded Alibates flint from the Texas Panhandle.

jrp,

@James Green when would it be called flintstone?

@jrp Geologically, flint is highly siliceous dark gray or black chert nodules derived from chalky limestone.

jrp,

@James Green excellent, thank you! I would have thought there is a similarity regarding the glassiness of opal and flintstone. Is that silica in both cases?

@jrp let me reply later.
