evoterra,

Another review. This time it’s Wren House Brewing’s Non-Alcoholic Spellbinder.

The boozy version of this beer is, without question, one of the best IPAs made in . And I will cut you if you disagree. This, Church Music from The Shop, and Mother Road’s Tower Station are currently top dogs. So when I saw the NA Spellbinder at King’s today, I nabbed it. This is my review.

The nose is very reminiscent of most NA IPAs. Not all that pleasant. And it tastes like it smells—very… vegetal. Again, like a lot of NA IPAs. It’s hops-forward from start to finish, but with that weird NA aftertaste. Not much pine, but some citrus to kickstart the salivation. The mouthfeel is very good. Not nearly as thin as competitors. It “feels” like a Spellbinder and is almost chewy.

Unfortunately, I can’t say this is a great NA beer. Which is sad because Wren House is a fabulous brewer! But even though I’m disappointed, I applaud them for the effort. I hope they continue exploring an NA line, perhaps not as “alternate” versions of their excellent lineup, but by innovating new NA-only options.
