My 12-yr-old figured out how to bypass the parental controls on .

He couldn't find the movie Wish on the kids' profile... so he created a new profile. Which doesn't prompt for password or pin & gives you access to all the content. 😬

appsec4one,

@syntaxseed yes the content in the kids section of Disney+ is for children under the age of 5 or so. I would love to enable a higher level content filter without allowing my child to access the R rated content. Surprised Disney doesn’t have this or hides it enough to be not obvious.

appsec4one,

@syntaxseed a bit more looking, there is a content level assigned to a profile (just don’t use junior mode). You can also disallow new profile creation without the password.

@appsec4one Can you?? Ooo I better find that!

I am a perfect mix of impressed with him & pissed at Disney.

Looking into this a bit... The kids mode that their account is set to, isn't just a rating level limit. It's a "curated collection of kid friendly content." Which doesn't include the PG rated Wish apparently.

Don't know how to prevent this work-around in the future but I can modify the kids' account to no longer be in kids mode but to have a rating limit instead.

Interestingly, Disney+ did not send me an email to say that a new profile was added to my account.

@syntaxseed My two cents: I let my kids use regular profiles on apps, while educating them on how to choose appropriate content, while also keeping an eye on what they're watching. I found that to be more effective and less frustrating for everyone.

@afilina We did that too... until my oldest broke that trust (in a mild way but it was the point) so the parental controls went on. For a little while then we'll try again.

It's tough because my oldest is 12 but youngest is 8. So what's ok for my oldest is still a bit scary for the youngest.
