"Administrators wrote down the ID numbers of students within the encampment and handed each a slip of paper warning of disciplinary action..."

No, #harvard , it's a #freespeech right and exercise of the #firstamendment .

Don't just ask #claudinegay but also Prof Fried.

@nicholas_saunders I wish instead of chanting "free, free Palestine" they would chant "Israelis and Palestinians side by side" or "Israelis and Palestinians united in peace."

It's not about land per se. It's about Islamic primacy. And the fundamentalists who want puritan style theocracy are never going to agree to not putting other faiths into second class status - or eliminated entirely. (See also ChristoFascists.)

nicholas_saunders,

@shekinahcancook @escarpment in a more perfect world of no nations, no borders, it's easily solved.

Coming at this from the perspective of a Western democracy might not be terribly constructive.

@nicholas_saunders @escarpment

True, borders are entirely artificial. But one group of fundamentalist puritans determined to make the whole world worship their deity is not a borders problem. The problem would exist whether there were borders or not.

@nicholas_saunders @shekinahcancook "no nations no borders" is a position of privilege. Israel had no nations or borders prior to its founding. The result was skirmishes and raids from violent Palestinian groups. Israel decided to establish borders to better protect their citizens, re-learning a lesson that western countries had already learned about statism.

@nicholas_saunders @shekinahcancook Borders and countries are a solution to a problem that happens in their absence.

@escarpment @shekinahcancook

I'm all ears. Truly.

But the original borders suggested by the UN were rejected.

@nicholas_saunders @escarpment

And China rejects Taiwan and Tibet as an independent nations. Russia rejects Ukraine (and the other soviet states). The US rejects sovereignty for Native Americans. So?

There are 49 countries that have either adopted Islam outright as their governing document, or have Islam as an official state religion.

There is only one Jewish homeland.

Islam doesn't need a 50th nation.

There is no moral or ethical argument for creating a 50th Islamic nation in the location of the one Jewish homeland.
