@cassidy @gnome I believe such a tool to dim keyboard light doesn't need to be in a desktop environment but can just be a standalone tool. As a matter of fact it would be more useful as a standalone gtk app.

I understand their position about the system tray but the truth is that years after the decision to remove it you still can't use the system well without it, just because there is the user need to interact with applications this way. There are plenty of apps you just can't use without that.
