I still can't believe that @gnome still wastes time with useless features like keyboard light dimmer (if you have your hands on the keyboard, controlling the lights there is much easier than using the mouse) and still relies on community extensions for main stuff like a system tray. I wonder if they collect any usage data from their extensions website... It would at least bring some useful.Start implementing natively the most used extensions there.

kemelzaidan,
@kemelzaidan@mastodon.online avatar

@cassidy @gnome I believe such a tool to dim keyboard light doesn't need to be in a desktop environment but can just be a standalone tool. As a matter of fact it would be more useful as a standalone gtk app.

I understand their position about the system tray but the truth is that years after the decision to remove it you still can't use the system well without it, just because there is the user need to interact with applications this way. There are plenty of apps you just can't use without that.

@argv_minus_one @n8fr8 they mention in the video that nothing is captured without interaction with the pin, but companies have lied about those things before...

I'm definitely thinking about moving from @gnome to @xfce. I'm kind of tired of so many changes in the Gnome desktop. I'm using so many extensions on to have it the way I like that it is slowing me desktop down. To start, I hated the change from vertical to horizontal in the activities view...

Yes, i am a guy living in the and I worry about becoming president of the US a lot

If he becomes president again this will also effect us here in big time, especially with the war in going on

It's not about the alone anymore and we all need to take that into account, if we like it or not

CANNOT be allowed to "win" the war in Ukraine, ever. With Trump in power that chance will only become bigger and bigger

kemelzaidan,
@kemelzaidan@mastodon.online avatar

@stux I'm in Brazil and I as worried as you. Not just because of Ukraine, but because it's evil influence in Latin America. The whole world suffered with this man's victory last time. .

I keep thinking about trying to write another zine about git -- for me git is something I feel totally confident using and I never really run into problems, and I really wish I could telepathically send that sense of confidence to everyone who’s struggling with git

🐧 “LINUX. O futuro é aberto. IBM”.

kemelzaidan,
@kemelzaidan@mastodon.online avatar

So after trying in vain to install @ubuntu, @pop_os_official and @elementary on my aging 2011 iMac, I guess that there is no way to complete an install without getting a wired keyboard and mouse from somebody. All three live environments didn't work with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so I couldn't start the install.

Is there a way to configure an installer for a Linux distro that would work with my bluetooth input devices after boot and that I could do with moderate effort?
