Toys Were Us

Here's an article I posted years ago about purchasing games from the now largely defunct Toys 'R Us chain of toy stores. Buying video games at Toys 'R Us was such an arcane, labyrinthine experience. It felt like a sacred ritual!

"First, take a slip from the plastic sleeve of the game you wish you possess. Then bring thine slip to the shopkeep, pay the required coin, and she wilt mark the slip with her official stamp of approval. Then bring thine stamped slip to the impenetrable concrete fortress, and you will at last be rewarded with the game of your desire."

I felt like I should have levelled up a couple of times after going through all that.
