Signal lost me when they took away SMS and added crap like stories. The new CEO is trying to make a social media app. When people really liked Signal for what it was.
I'm still using it because my son insists, and I do like the security. But even before they officially dropped SMS there were quite a few of my friends who could not receive my texts unless they joined Signal. So I learned to keep 2 messaging apps on my phone desktop, which I find frustrating. Now of course I can only use Signal with other Signal users. I have quit recommending Signal to others.
Totally agreed on the stories bit, but I disagree on the SMS - it’s an unnecessarily complicated additional “feature” to maintain that in no way serves Signal’s purpose (secure, encrypted messaging). It’s antithetical to their mission and not their responsibility to prop up an archaic standard, even if it may cost them users.
I had the same thoughts. I have a view that I try not to use billionaire owned systems as I just don’t like or trust them. My family largely moved its chats to Signal but continue to use WhatsApp and Messenger for others. Take what you can.
It worth the effort, let them discover Signal as an alternative to Whatsapp, they can still use Whatsapp if they want, I don’t see a probelm with that, but let then know you will only use Signal from now-on for personal reasons. My familly migrated in 2021 and most of my friends are also reachable on Signal now. I think many can enjoy the simple and straightforward design of Signal.
What? When I read this title, I expected usernames or something nice. But no. scheduled messages… This has been a feature since weeks already. How is this new. Idk when exactly but I got that update probably a month or little longer ago. How is this worth a headline NOW? xD
