I think it has a lot of potential to reignite passion for the series, as well as bring new fans in. I just wonder if the HD nature of it will end up subtracting from the game’s innate eeriness - the sort of vague and undefined shapes of faraway things are an important element of the game imo

agreed about the vagueness being creepy. i made a post about the ps1 graphics of SH1 and why theyre so damn scary, it's because our brain fills in the gaps of those low res lumps and shapes. we wont really have that anymore, but maybe they will use the fog and darkness to their advantage to maintain some of that? we will have to see

Domicidal,

I feel like it will be a great way to reintroduce the game to new silent hill fans, but as remakes usually go I'm not sure that it will be well received by fans. If it does well enough maybe Sony will buy the rights from Konami and make Silent Hills with Kojima? We can only hope...

that would be the dream scenario lol

The team that is making it never blew my mind, but I’m willing to objectively judge SH2R by what it ends up being. KONAMI is KONAMI. I love the franchise, but 2 isn’t close of being my favorite SH. They got rid of the tank controls which IMO, always gave survival horror games a distinct flavor and flow. They said they were going to adapt horror for the new audiences, and with how the most popular games are nowadays, I’m just bracing for it to be another "ciNemAtIc" experience a-la TLOU/GOW in which the game tries too hard to make James feel like a relatable human with deep feelings, while constantly taking player agency to lead them into the cutscenes and whatnot.

All in all, I’m not optimistic but neither I’m pessimistic about the game. I just think it’s going to be crafted to fit right in with the games we have right now and have it’s tone adapted to play cool with the current political standards.

The thing I’m excited about the most is to explore Silent Hill with all the bells and whistles from modern technology! (Both in audio and video) 💃🪩

IIRC, SH2 had the option to continue using tank controls or not, or maybe that was only the SH2 enhanced edition? I'm almost positive it was natively in the game. I have to agree that I think it might be much more cinematic, but I do hope and expect they keep up the survival horror elements. I also am excited to see SH with updated graphics, especially monsters.

have it’s tone adapted to play cool with the current political standards.

what does this mean, by the way?

Yeah, SH2 on the HD Collection had the option to use 2D and 3D(tank) controls.

It’s not that I’m licking my chops to see the mannequin rape scene in Unreal Engine 5, but the game’s story tapped into very dark themes. The intro screen of the original game said: “Some parts of this game might be considered violent or cruel.” and after watching the dev talks mentioning on how they were going to adapt horror to the new generations, I can’t help but feel like they’ll change the story and tone to omit all these controversial topics.

DutchChairMan,

I played the 'The Medium' from Bloober, they got the SH vibe down in that ( it also helped that they had both Akira Yamaoka and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn for the soundtrack).
So I'm optemistic, still a bit weary untill there's some gameplay I can actually play myself since I don't take much stock in trailers.

True, trailers can be misleading (the last of us 2 amirite? 👀), so it makes sense to be on the fence a bit. I heard a lot of different things about The Medium. I don't remember if it was that or Observer that youtuber Max Derrat who does Silent Hill videos (who's opinion I trust, he's great with Silent Hill, a true fan) said was actually pretty good and went over the game, and it made him confident in the remake despite people's skepticism.

But, in the end, I would agree, we have to play for ourselves to know if it did the original game justice.

Personally, I am feeling both a bit wary and excited at the same time. From Bloober's past work, they seem hit or miss, but from the trailer they put out, it gave me a lot more hope. People ragged on James' new look, but I hardly care about that. I just care about how they handle the ambience, the look and feel of silent hill, and the story. All in all, I think they will do a pretty good job. I'm hoping it's a 1-1 remake, just with better graphics.
