My SwiftUI previews for Please Don’t Rain stopped working and I couldn’t figure out why. I finally filed a TSI asking for help.
I have my answer.
They broke because I have an apostrophe in my app name. 😭
In order to get them working again now they are suggesting I do a “pretty thorough rename” throughout the app. My concern about breaking something else (and the time it would take to fix) is greatly overwhelming my desire to use previews that haven’t worked for months.
@MuseumShuffle something seems off with that answer. Like it's a bug not to allow them. I just did a brief search in the Mac App Store there's other apps with apostrophe's. Plus, it's part of the English language. Weird.
@hopeforall Oh it's definitely a bug. They said I should be able to have a name with an apostrophe and previews used to work with my name with an apostrophe.
@Joekw Oh yes, worked perfectly fine. I believe it was when I updated to a newer version of Xcode when the fun started.
They said I should be able to use an apostrophe in the name but if I want previews to work right now I need to do some drastic renaming (except for the Display Name in the Xcode General settings).
@MuseumShuffle Yes, that sounds about right to me. I'm not an expert but just battle-scarred from having students insert all sorts of exciting characters into their Xcode project names over the years. 😅
Ironically I was extremely concerned about having an apostrophe in the app name when I first created the app but when everything worked as expected I thought I was in the clear. 🫠
