Random toot: once you have the right #desktoplinux it is clear that desktop > laptop > mobile

Over time, my mobile has less apps and I am just happier sitting at my desk with my #system76 #thelio

@jppelt

Nowadays, laptops make really nice desktops in a pinch. This was not always the case.

A "fully armed and operational battle station" is always preferable, but it's nice to just sit on the kitchen table with a 17" laptop and get work done as well. ;)

@jppelt No a days you can plug in a usb-c connector and your laptop becomes a desktop. sure you can buy desktops that are more powerful than any laptop, but most people wouldn't use that extra power if they had it. For most the only difference is the keyboard, mouse, and screen on a desktop are better, and your laptop can drive them all via usb-c.

@bluGill @RL_Dane you can always put on a USB and have a fully functional laptop 😁 - yes, that is taking it a little far but I do enjoy using it at times.

@RL_Dane true. And many love their laptops. Like distros, we each have our preferences. I know that ever since I got my #Thelio, I am just happier at my desk with my desktop. Thank you :system76:

All this being said, I fully realize mine is an n of 1 and love how everyone has their own thing.

Totally! I know @SolusSpider is a big Thelio fan as well :)

I'm excited to see how shapes up. ;)

I just really hope they get usability and accessibility right. I gave up on ElementaryOS when I saw they followed the silly fad of having active and inactive windows be basically the same shade and color. I just can't use that. It breaks 39 years of low-level neural optimizations. I shouldn't have to break out a Pantone swatch to figure out which window has focus! 🤣

@RL_Dane @jppelt It is true that I own a System76 Thelio, but it only ran Pop for 2 days, to be replaced with Solus.
Earlier this year I changed out Solus for PCLinuxOS.
Therefore I really don't know much about Pop.

@RL_Dane @SolusSpider I really like where Pop is going. The one thing that I find bothersome is that it rides Ubuntu. I would love to see Pop go directly in .

I know, is awesome and smooth but for some reason Ubuntu really irks me - snaps? Unity? Loss of focus? yes, they’ve done a lot to popularize Linux but…

Why can distros get us so emotional? 🤪

@jppelt @SolusSpider

Ubuntu is sadly following the path, and it's not a good destination. :(

User-hostile and community-hostile linux distros must not be suffered. Even when they have been so good and positive in the past.

Ubuntu has lived long enough to become the villain. :/

@RL_Dane @SolusSpider Agreed. That is why I wish Pop would drop Ubuntu.

I am sure Ubuntu provides necessary smoothing out of Debian or adds certain polish that makes it easier for Pop to move forward.
