I am using the R package "exams" (https://www.r-exams.org/). It is quite flexible, though I cannot tell how well it works with printed exams. The web site mentions some helpers for the latter scenario.

@Daniel_Hoffmann @academicchatter I'm using it too (and it works very well) but it appears to support scanning of exams only for a very restricted form of separate answer sheet and exam.

I ditched in-person exams during COVID and I'm never going back. Online testing has its own issues, but it's less crazy than using thousands of sheets of paper to conduct a handful of 1-hour exams.

@modrak_m @academicchatter the closest I've seen is ZipGrade, but that stilk has a separate answer sheet as far as i know.
