Design aside I still cannot fathom why people are so excited about Mediatek phone, I mean, while performance is not bad, the efficiency is shit on Mediatek SoCs

While the idea of exposing the phone’s internals as a design motif is an interesting one, to be practical you’d want to pair this with a translucent case.
I’d like a pretty stripped down phone, and am intrigued by the concept of the Fair Phone. I looked at the Nothing Phone and the aesthetic is neat, but in the end it just seemed like different bells and whistles. It’s like if I didn’t want to wear fancy clothes, just simple working clothes. This looks like simple working clothes, but it’s actual streetwear from a boutique.
Cars and devices: can we just get simple, repairable machines?
EDIT: houses, too. I’d rather plain and quality than fancy shit.
I’ve been eyeing some commercial units partly because of this. Also because they’re made to run forever, and they continue to make parts for them.
Plus, the price of new consumer washers/dryers are well into the price of used commercial units, and approaching the price of low-end commercial stuff (that’s far better made and maintainable).
The used washing machine I’m looking at is $2k. With a known number of run hours on it (because it’s a commercial unit), easy access to internals (again, commercial), designed to be mountable, with proper leveling capability. These things are quiet and don’t shake at all.
Oh, I’m in the same boat. I was like, “$1000 for a ‘smart’ washer with shitty plastic parts or $2000 for a Speed Queen? I think if this washer breaks, I’m just going to buy the commercial washer.” They last forever.
