Inside Out is my favourite Pixar film of the last decade so I’m cautiously optimistic about the sequel. I’m really hoping Pixar knocks it out of the park especially considering their last 2 films were pretty disappointing in my opinion.
In the original her parents have the same 5 emotions she does, so to me it feels like they're trying to force out a sequel rather than actually have good reason for making it..
I've not gone out of my way to watch an animated (or any other) movie for many years, this won't be an exception, I'll probably catch it in a couple of years time when it makes it on to the tv. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Sequels are made when creators don’t have faith in new ideas and want to attract customers using existing IPs. This is especially true for sequels to stories that are already complete: there was no need for a sequel, they are just making it because the IP is popular.
Exceptions to the rule exist (Toy Story 2) but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Looking at the list of upcoming Disney/Pixar movies and seeing just a bunch of sequels (Inside Out 2, Zootopia 2, Frozen 3) just speaks of corporates choosing the “safe” route of betting on popular pre-existing IPs instead of new stories and original settings.
Way back when, Pixar were going to make a film called Newt. It was about two rare species of Newt, one of each gender, who needed to mate to save their species. Unfortunately, the female couldn’t stand the male. For whatever reason, they escape the lab and have an adventure.
Apparently this was around the time Rio was released and the stories were apparently too similar. (I haven’t seen Rio, do I don’t know), so the project was canned.
It’s a shame as I really liked the concept art which can be found online and I really liked the style.
In fact, newt makes two small tiny cameos in other Pixar films.
