It’s not just about losing history, but also mixing it with incorrect/wrong retellings of the story and fake news.

For example, you mentioned Homer, the writer of the Iliad and Odyssey who lived 3000 years ago. Homer’s existence is hotly debated, and even if he did exist, “he” probably didn’t write both poems. It’s far more likely that the Iliad and Odyssey were created as part of an extensive oral tradition by multiple travelling bards, who independently added, changed or removed verses; the story we know today as the Iliad is just one of many who happened to survive for a variety of reasons.

We also know very little of the broader trojan cycle (Cypria, Little Iliad, Sack of Troy, etc…) of which only fragments have survived. It would be as if, 1000 years from now, only the original SW trilogy survived, and only pieces or fragments of the other movies/TV series in the expanded universe remained - And to be fair, even this example is wrong, because it compares the Iliad/Odyssey to the “original” trilogy, but there’s no consensus about the relationship of the two Homeric epics with the broader epic cycle: as far as we know, they could have been created independently, and later edited to flow from one to the other seamlessly.

It doesn’t matter though whether Homer is a single person or many, real or fictional. What matters is that we’ve not lost the context of the story.

We literally did. We don’t know how much - if anything - written in the Homeric poems is true. If it did happen, we don’t know when, only rough estimates.

For hundreds of years those poems were thought to be an accurate retelling of history, to the point that political diatribes between ancient Greek cities could be settled by consulting the Iliad.

If our civilization falls, there’s no guarantee that our common knowledge survives. It could very well be that people see a lightsaber and think that we had the technology to build one.

There are two types of dnd players.

Those who want to live the fantasy of being able to afford rent.

And those who want to fuck monsters.

Seriously. Why do gamers spend thousands of hours on games they hate. Life’s full of shit to do. Go play something else. Or, God forbid, touch some grass. Why waste the little time you have on earth doing something you don’t like.

EDIT: Okay, I’m back. First of all, I’m going to mention that some of the things that will be discussed here were already known thanks to Dana and other cast members talking about the pilot during some live streams: a.lemmy.world/lemmy.world/post/11596677
I’m mentioning it here because, and I quote, "The pilot animation test that a lot of people see floating around on Tumblr and Twitter is actually a minute and a half animation test because we weren’t allowed to animate our actual pilot. The pilot itself wasn’t written to be the first episode: it was written to be a test of tone, a test of character, so we were just willy-nilly throwing stuff in there that we knew wouldn’t make it into the show”.
So, please understand that the pilot is not intended to be the ‘real’ story that was cut or rejected or anything else, but simply a pilot. Changes from the pilot to the final version of a story are not rare events by any means. I’m not saying this to downplay the pilot, which is actually extremely interesting to analyze, but to set the correct expectations. I don’t want anyone to look at this and think that the Owl House we received is just a second-hand replacement for the ‘true story’ that we’ll never see. Now that I’ve clarified this, we can delve deep into the pilot and observe everything that was altered (as well as some elements that remained the same):

spoilerDIFFERENCES- Amity was an “exchange student” from the demon realm. - Luz displays lockpicking capabilities in this draft. I’m sad this was removed, but I guess it gave kids a bad impression. - The inciting event of the pilot is Amity accidentally dropping her passport (a demon-shaped passport, may I add), and Luz following her to give it back, which leads her into the demon realm. - The Titan Key possessed the ability to create a portal door and travel between worlds, while in the final series, the key and the door are both needed (although in S3, it’s revealed that only the Titan blood is actually necessary, which kind of leads back to how it used to work in the pilot) - Travelling between realms was common in the pilot, and tons of inhabitants of the demon realm are shown doing it (using magic doors that reminds me of Monsters Inc.). - Eda was able to teleport! In the final episode, she instead flies away with her palisman. I suppose they realized that teleporting powers were too difficult to tie into the story. - Eda’s body-detachment curse isn’t shown immediately (in the series, her hand gets stuck on the palisman stuff after flying to the owl house). - Eda’s house was actually in the basement, and was more dungeon-like. In the series, it’s just a normal house, and the living room is at ground level. - The pilot still revolves around finding King’s crown, but this time, it’s not stored in the Conformatorium. Instead, it was taken by Lilith, who was the principal of the school (principal Bump, as a character, had not been conceived yet). - Eda had the power to turn into a giant owl! - As you can guess, since the crown is held by Lilith at the school, Luz runs into Amity, but the latter doesn’t recognize her and disparages the “creepy human girl” who she met in the human world. She was still a smart-ass in this pilot like she ended up being in the series, but this time, there’s no Boscha with her. - Lilith doesn’t have a magical barrier that stops anyone but humans from entering. Instead, she has a safe from the human world, which Luz is able to open with her lockpicking skills. - Lilith beheads Eda in front of Luz and King (of course her body-detachment curse saves her). This scene is quite similar to the one from Episode 1 where Warden Wrath does the same thing; however, in the final version, the scene has been significantly sped up, and the curse had already been established earlier. In contrast, the pilot features a longer version of this scene, and the curse has not yet been introduced. This setup not only makes for a rather satisfying plot twist but also portrays the scene as much darker than its counterpart in the final version, which I suppose it’s the reason why it was changed. - Lilith was also able to transform into some sort of were-bat, which is SO cool. - Luz can use Owlbert to perform all kinds of magic… Including using it as a rocket launcher. In the final version of the story, palismen can only fly, and “true” magic comes from the witches themselves. - Okay, so, this is the biggest difference so far: During the fight against Lilith, Luz manages to trap her in another dimension using the portal key, then breaks the key to trap her on the other side. In the final story, staying in the demon realm is an active choice made by Luz for the majority of S1, until the portal door is blown up in the final episode, trapping her in the demon realm. - Lilith loses a hand at the end of the pilot. It’s unclear if she also shared Eda’s curse. - I take it back, THIS is the biggest difference: Eda was forced to work with the Emperor, and the stone on her chest was some kind of device that kept her under their control. At the end of the episode, she is shown talking with an unknown demon who orders her to bring the human to the Emperor. When she tries to refuse, the demon uses the stone to inflict pain to her and remind her that she is under their control. I wonder if this was one of those things that were “willy-nilly thrown in there that we knew would not make into the show”, or something that they actually had planned. SIMILARITIES- The characters were, for the most part, very similar to their counterparts in the series. Lilith and Eda, in particular, were already established as sisters with a love-hate relationship. - A lot of jokes and scenes were either retained for the final version of the first episode, or reused for later episodes. For example, Eda selling human trash; Rosa Tinella being bullied by Lilith and imprisoned in her safe, similarly to how she is bullied by the Warden Wrath and imprisoned in the Conformatorium; Luz running away from bat!Lilith is very reminiscent to her running away from Eda when she turns into the Owl Beast in Ep10; Luz giving Azura’s crown to King as a replacement for the one he lost; etc… - BONUS: While running away from bat!Lilith, Luz passes by Amity, and the scene is pretty much a shot-to-shot version of Mark’s A little hint of blue - Chapter 3 Ep 6. Mark was able to predict even this one. - Hexside’s interiors are really reminiscent of the Conformatorium.

I find this one the best out of the three cleric subclasses you shared in this community, and I actually disagree with you: I think it’s pretty balanced overall.

Temporal Bid is a more fair Peace Cleric, which I like. You could cut the disadvantage part (which makes this feature more harmful than good) and it would still be fair. I think you should improve the wording, however. If I understood the effect correctly, it should be something like this:

Immediately before making an ability roll, skill check or saving throw, you can expend one use of this feature to declare the number that you think you will roll on the die. After you roll the die, you can also roll a d4 and add or subtract the result to the roll (your choice) to bring it closer to your predicted outcome. If you predicted the roll correctly, you gain advantage on your next attack roll, skill check or saving throw that you make.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, regaining all expended uses on a long rest.

Adding a d4 to any roll is certainly strong, but this is the only feature you gain at 1st level (most other clerics gain additional proficiencies), so I think it balances out. It also has less overall uses than the Peace Cleric’s Emboldening Bond, and it only affects you. Good job at taking one of the most broken features of the entire game and turn it into a manageable one.

Invert Fate is just one use of Indomitable for everyone. It’s okay early on, but falls off at later levels. There’s a reason Indomitable has been sharply improved in OneDnD.

Enforce Fate is strong, which is why I think you made it a Channel Divinity (which breaks conventions, but, like, who cares). Negating advantage is nothing to write home about, but negating bonuses (which I suppose include bonuses gained by stats and proficiencies) is crazy strong and is going to make your (and your party’s) save-or-suck spells a lot more strong than they would otherwise be. You do have only two uses though, and the enemies can still use legendary resistances, which leads me to believe that it’s certainly a very strong feature, but still manageable. I think you could just make it once per long rest and cut the Channel Divinity part.

Erase Cause has more uses in social settings than battle. Single-use Haste is great for surviving a dangerous situation, but it’s not going to break an encounter, especially considering that this cleric has no martial capabilities. Removing everyone’s memory of any one spell you cast is cool, until you notice that, mechanically speaking, it’s just a fancy Subtle Spell.

Nostalgic Forecast is great. The divination part is certainly flavourful and can be useful, allowing you to prepare for your enemy’s next move, but it won’t break an encounter. At 9th level, the DM can just tank the 6d6 damage and let the monster do whatever else they want it to do.
Free Foresight (a 9th level spell) for an entire day is the strong part - to me, this feature to me reads “noise, noise, noise, SECOND 9TH LEVEL SPELL SLOT, noise”. That being said, it’s once per 7 days, so the cleric won’t be able to spam it at will. Also, Divine Intervention is a poorly worded feature that already allows the user to gain the benefits of a 9th level spell, so, like, it’s nothing new, really. The strong part is that, the way you worded it, you can use Divine Intervention to gain any benefit you want, and then gain Foresight on top of that, but since “The DM chooses the nature of the intervention”, they could just give you a minor benefit for the intervention itself to balance the free Foresight, if they wish to.

Overall, I like this subclass a lot. It’s packed with flavour, and most of its features are strong but not broken, which is the perfect spot to land on for a full caster. Good job.

Stunning painting! I like the contrast between the well-defined lighthouse and the more loosely-brushed scenery. It adds a lot of depth and dynamism to an otherwise pretty serene and static scene.

If you’re talking about Unity and Godot, the main difference is that one tried to scam their customers by unilaterally changing the terms of contract and requesting an asinine amount of money based on downloads (not purchases) of games made with the engine, without even having a system in place to keep track of them.

    The other is Godot.

A warforged that escaped the war, met another defector, and together tried to start a new life. Unfortunately, the kingdom sent assassins after them in order to silence them and make sure that they would not switch sides. The human died, but the warforged lived on, carrying with it the remorse of not being able to save them. To honor its friend, it kept the nickname that the human gave it - Hector, which was a pun based on its model name (Tactical Heavy Operations Robot, model H -> H, T.H.O.R. -> Hector).

Survivor’s guilt was the main idea behind the build: It was a Fighter Rune Knight built to tank damage and protect its allies as better as it could (Heavy armor master, Interception fighting style, Cloud rune).

Tanking damage is not optimal in DnD (killing the damage dealer is always the best choice) but it was meant to be a low-level one shot, so it was fine. Unfortunately work, family and other real life issues got in the way and the party wasn’t able to convene on a date where everyone could gather and play for four hours straight.

Every character I play is secretly asexual, and I don’t think anyone has realized yet.

The closest I came to come out of the closet was when my Undead Warlock married his Unseen Servant. It was his best friend, they looked up to one another, respected each other, and shared an exclusively platonic relationship.

He prepped the entire ceremony in secret as part of multiple sessions:

    • He asked his mentor to put a 6th level Major Image inside his spell storing trinket, which he used to create the perfect setting for the altar.
    • He took a dragon scale from the corpse of a dragon the party had slain, and spent money to have an engagement ring crafted out of it.
    • He had an outfit made out of very expensive material for the Unseen Servant.
    • He put the Unseen Servant spell inside a custom wondrous item that gave him infinite casts of a 1st-level spell.
    • He asked the party’s cleric to cast Ceremony.

He then waited for the final battle, and the night before, he gathered everyone without telling them why, took out the ring, cast Unseen Servant and proposed to it. There were a lot of happy noises that evening, especially from the party’s cleric :)

The character I’m playing now is a lawful good city watch who is “married to his job”, and the Paladin has joked multiple times about taking him to a brothel. Bruh, take the hint.
