Some Apple Stores warn users that Android USB-C cables can overheat the iPhone 15

Apple Stores in India and China are warning customers that charging an iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C chargers designed for Android phones can cause the iPhone to overheat.

They blame the design differences in the Android cables for causing the issues and claim only Apple cables should be used.

There have been reports of serious overheating issues with the iPhone 15 while charging but so far it has not been conclusively proven that non-Apple cables are the culprit.

This could be nothing more than a sales tactic to push their own considerably more expensive USB-C cables or it could be a genuine concern from Apple.

I have only charged my iPhone 15 Pro Max with the USB-C cable that came with the phone and an official Apple 20W USB-C plug and haven’t had any overheating issues so far even while playing games with the phone plugged in.

I do charge my iPad Pro 11” with a USB-C cable and plug from an old Samsung Galaxy phone and the iPad hasn’t had a single issue with not using official Apple cables.

Now idk if that’s the case, but I can see them doing like nintendo and throwing away the standards to run their own power delivery system.

Create a problem, blame it on the others, charge the customers for repair/replacement not covered because yOu DiDn’T uSe OuR cHaRgEr. it’d be such an apple thing to do.

fartsparkles,

Used my old OnePlus 5T charger and cable last night with no issues.
