Sarah Palin in the top 20?

DavidGarcia,

yeah I was wondering about that too. she probably has someone hired to scrub her record clean. I can’t think of any other reason why she would still be that relevant in this metric.

betelgeuse, in Not the onion

The government asked me to not shit myself in public. I’m worried about losing our sense of consumer freedom and personal liberty. That’s why I’m drafting a bill that will make pants-shitting a intricate part of being an American.

Red_Eclipse, in I hate that my parents are the biggest chuds ever
@Red_Eclipse@hexbear.net avatar

Yeah my dad is quite the chud too. I still love him though, but it’s hard to connect with someone who doesn’t live in the same plane of reality as you. With the fascists he gets his news from, they always start with a grain of truth. So at least we were both able to talk shit about the military industrial complex the other day. But for him, he thinks it’s just a matter of voting in the right guy to “drain the swamp” and make things “constitutional” again. For me, as a straight up communist, I don’t even think our settler colonial genocidal slave state even has a right to exist. But I think he’d have a shit fit if he knew I was actually communist lol.

It’s really sad because I can see the ways his programming has harmed himself and our family, and mostly himself, but I don’t know if he’ll ever be able to see that.

Alisu,

It’s really hard to connect in anything that touches work or anything remotely related to politics. Getting news from fash types during your whole life must really make a number on someones head. He is nice and we do talk for a long time occasionally, but holy shit is he a chud

hungrybread,

With the fascists he gets his news from, they always start with a grain of truth

Even Rush Limbaugh (may he rest in piss) used this strategy. It’s honestly kind of impressive how right wing personalities can segue from easily agreeable things to outright conspiracies in just a few breaths.

a hidden upside of organizing is you arent forced to be around chuds only 100% of your time. if anything it puts you in contact with saner people and makes you feel a bit more sane too.

FreudianCafe, in We did it, America!

They phrase it in a way like russia isnt allowed to have allies. If China provides cotton that goes to the sock of the farmer who planted the wheat a russian soldier eat, they are complicit in war crimes or whatever. But if you provide planes, bombs, ammo, intel etc to ukraine (or isntreal) its ok

Putin is, if nothing else, a practical man. He has to have noticed how well the Chinese have done in the years since the fall of the USSR. Like, if there’s a model that works in the 21st century, that’s the one.

When there was still some hope of rapprochement with the West I guess I could see why he didn’t want to go full Socialism with Russian Characteristics but why wouldn’t you do it now? Will we see Dengist-Putinist thought in our time?

SeventyTwoTrillion,
@SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net avatar

there is a fair amount of state purchasing of private industry going on and Russian workers are, relative to the 1990s and also to Europeans in manufacturing losing their jobs right now, doing fairly well for themselves. this doesn’t, of course, mean that any socialism is happening but it is two interesting trends.

my personal prediction for the next few decades of Russian history is something along the lines of:

  1. Russia wins war relatively soon, possibly not this year depending on how exactly things shake out but very probably by 2025-2026
  2. the break with neoliberal policy, such that it is (there’s still plenty of neoliberalism going on) also ends and there’s a return to the almighty god-given authority of the Central Bank
  3. this necessarily means that Russian workers, who were previously in an alright spot, start suffering as neoliberals enact austerity to beat down the working class again so they don’t start getting any ideas
  4. this austerity goes through without much organized resistance, but Russian workers are able to draw the conclusion that when the state was more involved, things were good, and when the state retreated, things got bad. Putin is probably dead by this point due to his age which further complicates things
  5. who even knows what happens after that, it’s way too underdetermined and the decline of the US empire will have had even more impacts by then that make analysis and predictions not very helpful, but drawing on the couple years after WW1 in Italy and England (which Mattei’s The Capital Order nicely analyzes), we either get a new USSR rising, a successful beatdown of the working class without too much violence like what happened in England, or we get Italian-style fascism in retaliation for socialist revolutionaries trying and failing to take power. though how fascism would even work in a multipolar context is kinda fuzzy to me, especially as China would, hopefully, act as a counterbalancing force ideologically for that kind of thing.
Hestia, in They detonated chunks of the bridge while sailors are on board because the US won't allow them shoreside.

a barge crashed into a bridge and you’re worried about the expense of a motel 6?

This line goes hard

Diuretic_Materialism,

Yo I’m from Baltimore originally, they don’t even need a motel 6. There’s aid groups for sailors who get stuck in the port for a while (happens semi frequently if a ship has mechanical problems or something). They had like small kitchens to make food, vans to take people places and I’m pretty sure they even gave some small bunk houses at their disposal.

nothx, in Teetotalitarianism (Kelly)
@nothx@hexbear.net avatar

I’ve been trying to understand where Kelly actually stands on issues. Some of the comics go hard unironically, but I can’t help but cringe still.

What are they trying to say here? Is it a shot at millennials or a shot at the boomers blaming millennials?

barrbaric,

Stan Kelly is a fictional artist who is meant to be a parody of a boomer, so the comic itself is meant to read as a boomer taking a shot at millennials, but is in reality a millennial taking a shot at boomers.

The actual author, Ward Sutton, is a Blue MAGA liberal, which is extremely disappointing…

Egon, in They detonated chunks of the bridge while sailors are on board because the US won't allow them shoreside.

If you think this is wild you should read some stories about stowaways. I know a guy who sailed with a dude who had been a stowaway on danish ships for a couple decades, and that was a nice story. A lot of the stowaways get tortured and/or killed and then dumped in international waters. A stowaway is any person who is not on the ships’ manifest. Lot of refugees that just… disappear.
Stowaways can be made to work while they’re on your ship, though you have to provide them lodgings and food. There’s a lot of people who get found on ships, are made to work and then are unable to leave the ship because no country will take them. Then they’re just stuck there forever.

Meanwhile Democrats are actually actively killing kids while ensuring that Americans can’t have affordable EVs and solar panels. So you know. Burning down the house and killing the kids.

Your team is doing the very thing you say is a reason to stop the other team from gaining power. It only works if folks aren’t paying attention to what your guys are already doing

JohnBrownNote,

yeah “want to” because they’re not in the whitehouse at the moment. Biden is currently aiding and abetting the murder of children and he approved more drilling permits than trump did.

and since liberals have reading comprehension difficulties sometimes: condemning biden is not support for nor an endorsement of trump.
