15 minute deep dive on monsters in glory of the giants posted today.

The D&D equivalent of PC Battlestations (lemmy.ca)
What does your table look like?
Anyone else collecting these? (lemmy.ca)
I’d vote 8/10. The Lost City is my favourite so far.
Do you hate having to pick between ability score increases and feats?
My paladin is now level 4 and has 19 strength and 15 charisma. I know it is probably better to take the ability score increase and get another +1 on the majority of rolls I’ll be making but that’s just so boring!...

This is a tiny YouTube channel of an old hand in this hobby who typically has an even kneeled and optimistic outlook on the new releases. His enthusiasm for this subject matter always feels sincere, I hope you guys enjoy!

The “I Know A Guy” House Rule (www.sageadvice.eu)
Originally posted by David Nett on Twitter, the “I Know A Guy” house rule is intended to give all players a way to influence the story without handwaving away any difficult narrative situation the DM might want to put them in. The comparison that David used was the moment in Empire Strikes Back when Han decided to go to...
What 5e variant/house rules do you play with that work?
I’ll be DMing some more 5e soon and I want to take the opportunity to try some different ways of playing (I’ll post my own suggestions as comments so they can start their own discussion threads). What alternate rules have you tried that you thought worked well? They can be larger changes to the game or little QoL tweaks...

The History of DnD that Hasbro Refused to Learn From - Extra Credits (youtu.be)
The EC team put together this breezy and accessible overview of the legal, financial, and creative history of DnD, from its creation in the 1974 to the OGL fiasco of early 2023. It’s sad but a little funny how cyclical the licensing situation has been for the past 50 years. Here’s hoping that the community’s protests...
Cloister of Eggs Encounter + Adventure Hook Poster + Battle Map (sh.itjust.works)

I feel that class capstones work better at 18
Capstones are rarely acquired in actual play since next-to-no groups manage to get to 20. Even published adventures tend to end at 18, or see very little content beyond 20. Having capstones at 18 would enable more groups to be able to actually play with these cool superpowers....
"I think Wizards balances classes using damage on a single target nova over 3 rounds." Very interesting post I think is worth sharing (www.reddit.com)
Hate to share from the site we definitely don’t think about anymore, but I think this is too interesting to miss. If true, it’s a big insight into the design of the game. All credit to that OP of course....

PHB 2024 Playtest Drops Tomorrow - Overview (youtu.be)
Crawford says it’s the biggest yet, with 7 classes (Experts: Ranger, Rogue, Bard; Priests: Cleric, Paladin, and Druid; and Monk confirmed), spells and weapon mastery tweaks, capstones back at lvl20 (epic boons will be pushed to another UA), and subclass progression reverted to the 2014 cadence after lvl3. Notably, rogues are...
A Pathfinder 2e mechanic that I will henceforth always use in 5e
Like many 5e players, I investigated other systems during the drama in January. I have converted my table over to Pathfinder 2e, so that’s what I’ll mostly be running going forward....
Magic item ingredients- Cloak of Protection
What's a unusual but sensible ingredient used to make a Cloak of Protection? Could be something you harvest from a defeated monster or collect from nature or an abstract concept.
Ancients Paladin -7th Lvl Feature Issue
So I play an Ancients Paladin in one of my games and have the 7th lvl feature, which is resistance to magic damage caused by spells. Sounds great on paper....
Community Service Announcement – Open5e.com (open5e.com)
Friends! In case you didn’t know it, there’s an awesome volunteer-run website called https://open5e.com/ that includes tons of OGL-released 5e material. If you’re looking for a quick spell or monster lookup, this is your place. If you’re developing a system of your own, you can access the data there through an API in a...
Which came first for you: DnD, or DnD media?
Up until 4e, DnD (and TTRPGs in general) were pretty much only spread through the game itself. You either knew someone who played, or maybe you heard about it on the internet and you were interested so you sought out a local game shop, something like that. Regardless, your first experiences with what DnD was like (ignoring...
