TJ Edwards (Disagree, he was getting paid and Dean can step up and take his role)
Jordan Hicks (Injured too often for the Birds)
Jordan Poyer (Agree)
Rasul Douglas (Eagles haven't done too well drafting DBs)
Raheem Mostert (Eagles had a loaded backfield of DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, and Kenjon Barner. Unfortunately no room for Mosters that year)
Marquise Goodwin (opted out of the covid year, has been decent since but nothing to worry about losing.)
This defense has so much potential but is so dependent on a new DC and a bunch of young players. Hopefully they deliver. Especially Dean we haven't had a great LB in a while.
I think the Eagles are moving closer to a base 3-4 with the investment in Reddick and then Nolan Smith as both are very good stand up pass rushers. In a 3-4, your DEs are typically a bit bigger than in a 4-3. Currently the DEs are Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat, Derek Barnett, and … that’s really it.
With that addition of Carter and the continued development of Jordan Davis, I’m hopeful the Eagles can get creative with playing Milton Williams, Fletcher Cox, and possibly Ojomo at DE. This would allow the Birds to move on from Barnett and give them a versatile front to adapt to different situations.
I won't lie, I was/am a big Sermon fan. I honestly thought the Birds would sign just one vet and roll with them and Sermon while letting Gainwell and Scott fight for the rest of the reps. I think by the Eagles signing 2 vets, although both injury prone, it shows me they don't have a lot of confidence in Sermon. I'm still confused as to why they kept him on the 53 man roster the entire season, I think he had less than 5 snaps total.
I think Sermon has a very long shot to be the starter. Hell, I even think he has a long shot to take over Boston Scotts roll.
BG went from fans calling him a bust to one of the more beloved players of his era. Really showed up every day to compete and it has paid off quite well. Still think fans wish we drafted Earl Thomas? Eagles definitely made the right pick in the long run.
How lucky are the Eagles for having top OL talent for such a long time, especially at tackle? Going from Runyan, to Peters, to Johnson. If Mailata can continue to improve, he can carry on the tradition.
NFC East had an easier schedule last year, but having three teams make the playoffs is still a big statement.
This article is not going to tell anyone who pays attention to the division anything they don't know, but I am excited to see if the young LBs on this team live up (and hopefully surpass) last years duo.
I'm very excited for Nakobe. Felt he played well in his very limited snaps last year. The fact the FO let both Edwards and White walk tells me they have a lot of faith in Dean. Also am a fan of Elliss and think he has the potential to surprise a lot of people this year.
I would argue the bigger hole is safety, since there isn't much talent outside of the potential of Sydney Brown. I think the week 1 starters will be Blankenship and Edmunds. While Blankenship is decent, he did enough to not be a liability and Edmunds is average at best. A whole lot is riding on Sydney to take on a starting role.
I became a fan during the beginning of the Andy Reid era with McNabb and my first devastating moment as a birds fan was the loss in the NFCCG to the Rams. Although my earliest memory of watching the birds was with my father as hes yelling Duuuuuuuceeeee at the TV anytime he had the ball.
Born to it. I remember watching games with my dad in Delco back in the 80s when I was young. I also remember visiting uncles with my Dad so he could watch the game with his brothers.
