Greater spotted #eagles changed their #migration routes to avoid the Ukraine war.
'researchers believe the Greater Spotted Eagles skirted around dangers including artillery fire, jets and tanks as well as buildups of troops.'
...
'The findings reveal they made large deviations from their previously tracked routes. They also spent less time stopping at their usual refuelling sites in Ukraine or avoided them entirely.
'As a result, they traveled farther, about an extra 52 miles (85km) on average.'
Been so busy w/ my garden that I haven't had much time to take pics. When I'm that busy I often go back through my catalog & re-edit old pics or edit old pics I never used.
This pic is from 2023. That year there were hundreds of bald eagles along my stretch of the Iowa River. I never edited this photo because the angle was "strange" (I was nearly directly below) & I had tons of eagle photos to choose from.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (#IDNR) publishes a quarterly called Iowa Outdoors Magazine. They accept submissions so I've been submitting some of my favorite photos from the last few years like this one from 2023. Gives me a chance to re-edit & a trip down memory lane. The local & migratory eagles are the reason I purchased my 1st DSLR.

This is heavily cropped but I was pleased to get a decent shot without a tripod from across the Iowa River (*Disclaimer: the Iowa River isn't that wide in this location & I took a LOT of photos, lol). Tomorrow I'm gonna head over to the other nest to see if there's any activity.
