38% of workers in game companies think the industry isn’t sustainable and 19% are uncertain. I wish the article also said if all the remaining 43% think it’s sustainable, or if some are uncertain but leaning on a more positive side.

Because of those issues [wages not keeping up with cost of living, being unable to negotiate raises], and others such as pay disparity and crunch, IATSE believes that the game industry has been “suspended in a parallel reality compared to other sectors of entertainment where union representation is more common.”

This has kinda been pointed at for at least a decade now. The recent layoff rounds most big companies did this year, after every one of them announced big profits in 2022, goes to show just how much shit these workers end up taking for so little financial return.
