What is the reason behind the pending subscription

From what I’ve seen, it never stops pending and all you can do is try again later

It's a visual bug. You are actually subscribed and posts should be showing in your feed just fine.
Hopefully this is one of the things the impending update sorts out.
Mog_fanatic, Yeah I've had 100% success just tapping the button until it switches from pending to subscribed.

It’s not a “feature”, it’s just the server being slow.

I have some that have been like that for almost a week.
felttrip, I had a couple that got stuck, I was able to retry the sub and they went right through.
Faendol, My guess is it's waiting for a server response or something, I've only had it happen every once in a while
