I'm a 47-year-old musician who's been playing guitar and writing songs since I was 16.

I just got my first amplifier. Yes, I am a walking contradiction. But that doesn't diminish my OVERWHELMING excitement right now!

The backstory: I didn't actually start recording any of my songs until about 8 years ago, and my solution for that was simply to play through a DAW and use software effects.

I had no idea what I was missing.

@killyourfm I think I'm seeing my future lol. Congrats!

QuiGon_Singh,

@killyourfm I also have a Boss Katana. I think yours is the 50 like mine is. I absolutely love it!

Will you (or have you) done any videos/blogs/etc about your setup?

@QuiGon_Singh Hi! Yep, it's the MkII 50. I just received it yesterday so I haven't really done any blogging or talking about it.

But that's one thing I HAVE to start doing, both for my own personal satisfaction and to start getting my name and music out there.

nickajordan,

@killyourfm The satisfaction in just plugging in and bashing out simple chords never seems to diminish. It’s a joy to play!

@killyourfm always kinda wished I had picked up an instrument.

@bashfulrobot Stop wishing and go pick one up, my friend. Time is short.

@killyourfm I love my little Katana 50. So many effects!

@JoeRess And they sound GREAT. Man, I don't know if I can ever go back to software amps. They were just a means to an end that I grew accustomed to.

@killyourfm yeah there's something really nice about just plugging in, flicking a switch, and playing instantly. And being able to turn actual knobs to control things. You can hook the Katana up to a PC though to get more effects and tweak them etc. Kinda the best of both worlds.

@JoeRess Another advantage that I just realized: Recording through amps + learning drums -- this dramatically reduces my reliance on macOS for recording.

(Logic Pro has been my drummer for years...)

I've always wanted to do my recording and mixing with Linux + open source. Two steps closer now.

@killyourfm I had one of the first Fender Mustang modeling amps and it was pretty sweet! I’ll haven’t tried the Boss Katana or the Line 6 Spider modeling amps, but I may be in the market for another bedroom amp soon so you’ll have to keep us posted on your experiences. Also, congrats!

funnylookinhat,

@killyourfm congrats and have funnnnnn!
