Every time I see one of these sorts of pictures, I wonder if any of the guys pictured survived the war.

Spoils of war!

No doubt that the area they were fighting in was once a nice place. Unfortunately, much of the Western Front on WW1 was like that - when it wasn't wonderful fields being ruined, it was quiet villages and towns. No one left but the rats and the troops - and the rats didn't have as much use for furniture.

Making observations is commendable curiousity, not ignorance! And they are damn nice chairs for being dragged out into the mud of the front lines!

They remind me of chairs my great grandfather made about 140 years ago, i love those chairs…
