Israel is following the Nazi Germany playbook rather closely, isn’t it?

A couple of pages of that, all run together. Lots of interesting information for a hacker to take advantage of.

PHP LOL.

You look cold, Kevin. Hop into bed; it’s warm under the covers. No hanky-panky, mind you! I’m a married man.

This thread went in an unexpectedly 4chan direction really fast.

Boeing locks out its private firefighters around Seattle over pay dispute (apnews.com)

Boeing has locked out its private force of firefighters who protect its aircraft-manufacturing plants in the Seattle area and brought in replacements after the latest round of negotiations with the firefighters’ union failed to deliver an agreement on wages....

Voyager allows you to block communities. It can be implemented client-side, in your case, in Thunder.

One day, I’m going to actually start a project I’ve long wanted to do: tear apart the control board for one of the bidets and re-wire it up to a board with three shells.

It’s not a complex project, but I want to make it look nice, and I always get stuck in planning; I need to either invest in a 3D printer, find a local maker space, or spend time online finding a printing service. And before all that, I need to learn enough about designing for a printer … it’s at this point in the thought process I get sidetracked by other things, and never get started.

But… someday. Someday, I’ll have three shells that actually control the toilet.

Side note: there are far more than three controls on the bidet remote, and even programming a multi-sequence control, it’d be difficult to get all of the functionality behind just three buttons. If each shell were a 4-way toggle, it might work, but it’d be a terrible user interface having to memorize all the combinations.

When you have extra red dots, you mail them to people who don’t have them. Like me.

But: it seems like that’s not a bad combination, TBH. If you didn’t have extra, you’d have had to buy another one for it anyway.

I’m actually stuck right now because the gun I’d want a sight on is a Walther PPQ M1, which isn’t sight-ready. I could get a dovetail, but I’d still have to tap the slide, and that’s something I’m just not quite ready for.

So, no red-dots for me :-(

lasik is expensive

It’s gotten pretty cheap! Although, IIRC it won’t correct astigmatism.

Can you use scopes? I’ve got a cheap little illuminated 4x on my RFB; the only reason I’d replace it with a red dot is for a better sight picture – mine has horrible eye relief – but I could also fix that by buying a better scope.

I want a red dot on the PPQ because, while the iron sights are actually pretty good, it does take time for me to acquire the target to achieve any decent accuracy, and I have this idea that a holo or red dot would make this easier/faster. I suppose even an expensive 1x illuminated wouldn’t be much of an improvement for you in that area, huh?

I open source all of my projects. Most people I encounter are reasonably polite, but of course even my most popular is used by a tiny fraction of the number of Gnome users. In any case, I long ago stopped caring about being beholden to users. Often they’re doing me favors and finding issues I haven’t, and some even provide useful analysis that saves me work. A few provide contributions. But at the end of the day, I do what I do for me, and anyone else who benefits from it provides a small dose of dopamine from being useful.

I regularly fork projects and implement changes I want; I also file PRs, but in the case the upstream author has different opinions about it, requiring work I don’t think it’s necessary, I just let it go and maintain my own fork.

This is not Ideal Open Software Development, with many people contributing to a common goal. It’s fractured and selfish. But the other way, it becomes work, and nobody’s paying me for this, and so I give no fucks.

My mental health improved drastically once I stopped emotionally caring about the opinions of my users. I still care about the technicalities, but only insofar as they affect me or I deem them to be a superior solution. Key to this is not engaging emotionally; if I’m not interested in working on it, I just say so: I have other priorities, but an happy to review and maybe accept PRs.

Yeah, that’s fair. It’s your work; you have no moral obligation to share it. Despite what the commies might say.

I don't think Boeing killed those guys

Boeing is for sure a shit show and terribly managed, but I don’t think they would blatantly kill guys like that. I think it’s far more likely that the first guy did kill himself because he figured everybody would think Boeing whacked him and that would do far more damage to the company than his testimony would. Now any news...

Really? Let me introduce you to the Firestone Tire Controversy, where executives knew their tires were responsible in the auto accident deaths; they calculated the cost of doing a recall was more expensive than paying out compensation to families and decided to not do a recall, resulting in even more deaths - until they were finally found out.

Companies will abso-fucking-lutely murder and let/or let people die preventable deaths for profits. Sometimes, executives even go to prison for it (3 confirmed deaths in that case).

I don’t know about the Boeing cases, but I do know you’re naïve if you think executives won’t murder people for profits.

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

A lot of those examples are murdering foreign nationals, which is far less likely to get them in trouble with US law enforcement. But you’re absolutely right: trying to make an exhaustive list of proven cases of corporations killing or knowingly allowing preventable deaths in favor of profit would require more of a book than a Lemmy comment.

Good for Ukraine; their best hope for continued support is that he gets reelected, even if they lose the focus for a while.

Ukraine’s social media game is top-notch; I don’t think this will affect their cause much.

Edit: huh. 15 feet, originally. Weird.

You can take the stance that POTUS should be trying to influence state leadership, for whatever good that would do; or at least take a public stance on the matter, which he hasn’t.

You’re getting the downvotes probably because it sounds like you believe POTUS is a king and can force governors to do his bidding. However, I agree that he’s been remarkably consistent in kissing Israel’s ass, and refusing to show any real concernv or sympathy for the Palestinians beyond “maybe Israel is starving too many Palestinian children.”

We’ve had four years of boring and unremarkable, with many boring wins. And yet, that’s not what Americans seem to want.

We’ve come to look at the Presidency like it’s a monarchy. The President has broad powers, but it’s only one of the three branches of government; but it’s harder to take your frustrations out in Congress.

sxan,
@sxan@midwest.social avatar

Would you mind telling me what communism is? Like, you don’t have to quote Marx, or go into deep detail; I’m just curious about what you think it is.

I’m a capitalist (but not a laissez-faire capitalist), so I’m not trying to trap you with pedantry.
