What they shouldn't tell you in the manual: Use the Supervisor Panel. It no longer exists. The Control Panel a quick web search tells you to use instead no longer exists either...

@vik That sounds indeed like a left over from the past.

Where have you spotted that?

@frenck
Looking up how to program ESPhome devices. Want me to dig up a URL tomorrow?

@vik That sounds like ESPHome documentation?

As in, the Home Assistant documentation generally doesn't have instructions on how to program ESPHome devices (exception would be the voice assistant manual, but those are very recently created so I don't expect them to have that issue you described).

If you have an URL, yes please 🙏 We are happy to correct errors of course.

@frenck Looks like the first one I found was an ESPhome tutorial rather than a HA manual per se so probably out of your control? https://esphome.io/guides/getting_started_hassio.html

On the plus side, I did get it working!

@frenck You wanted me to look for pages that tell the user to use the Supervisor. Here's one for setting the wifi: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/guide-connecting-pi-with-home-assistant-os-to-wifi-or-other-networking-changes/98768
I take it advice is still "don't use the wifi?"
