I think I've finally settled on Kailh Box Jade and Navy switches when it comes to clicky tactile switches. The Gateron Pro Blue and MX Blue switches are too scratchy and the former has problems with off-angle presses. Most keys are using Jade switches while keys like Escape, Tab, Caps, Shift, Space, Alt, Control, Backspace and Enter are using Navy switches.

I now have three different Keychron Q3 keyboards: one for clicky tactile, one for soft tactile, and one for linear. I plan on switching out the switches for the soft tactile to Moondrop Tessence and linear to Moondrop Lunalight switches over the weekend.

SweetAIBelle,

I should explore different switches more. I decided fairly early on that I liked Akko Lavender Purple switches, but there are probably others I'd like as well...

@SweetAIBelle Yeah, I kind of got tired of basic, scratchy switches and have been toying with other ones. I don't have a hands or patience to lube my own key switches, so I've been checking out factory lubed ones. It's nowhere as good as properly lubed ones, but I'm fine with getting around 80% the way there.

SweetAIBelle,

@qlp
Yeah, was going to lube the Akko's, then decided they felt good enough as is, and didn't bother. The keyboard they are in is still my favorite keyboard, but it's in comparison to non-mechanical keyboards and pretty cheap mechanical ones...

(There's one I stuck browns in that's not bad, but I don't like the layout on it because it doesn't have arrow keys. I don't really get along with anything other than TKL or full...)

@SweetAIBelle I've stuck with original TKL/SSK keyboards due to limited space at my work desk. I first went with a Drop CTRL keyboard, but lack of available pre-cut foam and other things to deaden the sound a bit kept me from modding that one further. I do like that it has an open top to make cleaning and removing switches a little easier.

I also like the hefty of the Q3 keyboards and, with soft/quiet tactile or linear keys, give me the sound like that I like (not too thoccy and minimal metallic sound).

My next keyboard will probably be a modded buckling spring SSK-style keyboard just so that I can check that checkbox. 😂

SweetAIBelle,

@qlp
My original idea was that I'd do TKL and then have a separate numeric keypad, so I could have a tenkey when I wanted it, and not have it when I didn't need it.

In practice, I'm tending not to use the keypad...
