What worked for me was, as chit said, exitin the riot client on system tray.

I had the same a few times, did sudo pacman -Syu, did not help. What helped in the end is... after closing the client after successful instalation, additionally killing the client process (apparently it did not get killed properly by exiting).
Hope it helps you too!
