In the early days of Reddit the founders would post things they found interesting to generate traffic. That said they had a reason to because they wanted to grow their company/platform.

Lemmy has a lot less of that, but these things take time, and dedication from the few. If API's weren't so locked down you could mirror them but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Best solution I guess is post interesting things till people show up sadly.
