Hackerman_uwu,

This definition of “skeumorphism” is very shaky. What the author is actually describing is the age old ‘form over function’ but that doesn’t sound very hip. “Skeumorphic” sounds whizz-bang! af but he stuff they are complaining about aren’t strictly speaking g skeumorphs as they perform no function whereas skeumorphic designs use known imagery to help a user navigate a function. They are affordances. Perhaps if the author had heard of “affordances” they could have hung this flaky article on that buzzword instead?

Cornpop,

Shit article

WhyDoYouPersist,

The Tesla Cybertruck is the current shining example of bad skeuomorphism, in my opinion. And what’s with the general fascination of lugging so much extra mass around when you need to go places? I’ve had this major itch to strip my car down to bare bones just to shave off a couple hundred pounds and sacrifice some comfort to have a quicker, more efficient ride.

SpaceNoodle,

I wish there was a vehicle that was easy to get in and out of that isn’t also a massive SUV.

On the other hand, I love cargo space.

WhyDoYouPersist,

Yeah I personally don’t use cargo space enough to warrant it. Always thought the idea of cars or vans with foldable, stackable sections for cargo would be cool.

Like shopping carts parked on the side of the road for you to rent for trips that required actual cargo space.

Going back to the article, some of those VW concepts are pretty interesting. They remind me of those small Japanese utility trucks, although the name escapes me now.

SpaceNoodle,

I drove a little Mitsubishi mini truck around campus for a while when I was doing facilities work. Peppy little guy.

This is what has kept me so far in a grand caravan. My wife has back issues, a hip replacement, and knee surgery and we needed something to get in and out of easily. The seat on that is just perfect. You don't sink down into it and you don't have to climb into it either. Its like right at just below but level. Later I noticed most of the occupational therapy stuff that shows getting into and out of a vehicle uses a minivan (which is sorta bs as its the best case scenario and the process is not going to work so well otherwise). Add to that the flip and fold allowing passenger and cargo as you need it whenever and they did something similar with the roof racks so that they are recessed for better fuel economy but you can pull them out if needed. It has about the bets fuel economy of anything larger than a small car. Unfortunately they stopped making them and the replacement pacifica has less comfortable chairs. My wife and I are trying to figure out what we will get when the time comes.

You may want to keep tabs on this if it ever gets mass produced. https://aptera.us/

ashok36,

Auth thinks the coolpix was more ergonomic than a standard SLR camera form factor. OK dude, whatever you say…
