An interesting little mantid-fly I spotted on a walk.

A mantid fly isn't a mantis, but it is an example of convergent evolution. They are lacewings that developed raptor claws like a mantis and some have even adopted the bodyshape and coloration of a wasp (wasp-mimic). Wild little insect.

@Quip really nice image, I'd love to find and photograph one myself one day, however they are very rare and not very diverse in my area. Hope you don't mind I reposted this with a link to your post, couldn’t figure out how to crosspost and still get a thumbnail on kbin unfortunately.

@lol3droflxp They aren't very common here either, I was lucky enough to spot this one on the underside of a leaf. Good luck!
