I think my next Home Lab experiment will be installing some kind of music library manager. I have Plex already and tried using that a few years ago, but it wasn't exactly my cup of tea for music.

My library is large. Over 25 years of collected music in MP3/MP4 format.

Any recommendations out there?

@box464 I saw a Home Assistant integration that looked interesting, Music Assistant I think it was called. I haven’t tried it. Not sure how well it would work remotely.

@brad I would have to install Home Assistant first! It’s also on the list. 😅

@box464 I actually saw this earlier too: https://www.navidrome.org

@box464 Have you tried Plexamp already? I like it very much und think it's so much better than Spotify or Youtube Music.

@fuersi Hmm, no. I was just using the Plex app itself. I do have a lifetime Plex pass so may give this another shot. Thanks!

@box464 Happy to help. Have fun exploring all the features it has.

@box464 I've been using https://github.com/epoupon/lms for a while now, but my music library is less than 100GB and around 15,000 files.
I don't know how it performs with bigger libraries.

@box464 I use Navidrome ( https://www.navidrome.org/ ) which is compatible with the basic subsonic protocol so there are a number of clients that will work with it on basically every platform.

There are a whole bunch of other options, but I haven't used any in a long time besides a couple other sonic variants.

I believe Jellyfin has support for music as well, not sure how it compares to Plex for that.

@box464 I'm using a LogitechMediaServer installation on my NAS. Its not much of a "manager" i guess, but it handles a fairly large collection of CD rips very well, and one can link streaming Stations like SomaFM too. Players are a few Raspis all around the Flat.

@box464 I'm using Jellyfin mainly for video but it also does a decent job of hosting my music files and seems to scale well.
