NerdBin Transparency - How Transparent Should I Be?

My ultimate goal in most things I do is to strive for maximum transparency - I want to ensure everyone on a platform knows what's going on with that platform. That can be taken in multiple different ways .. and I don't want to be annoying, or over share, or provide information that nobody cares about.

So .. why not ask the people that will be using the platform what they care about .. and I'll go from there!

Here is a list of information I've seen OTHER instances / OTHER platforms provide:

  1. Financials, Budget
  2. System architecture / What's under the hood
  3. Administration / Moderation teams
  4. Overall platform growth and goals

I'm probably just going to share everything .. unless there are any objections. I'd love to know what goes into running something like this, and maybe it'd inspire someone else to try the same!

Really looking forward to seeing how this community grows - if it does :) - and seeing the awesome conversations that we can have!

digitalspork,

Personally, I think that full transparency is a must when running an open platform.

That way people know whats putting put in if there is any sort of crowdfunding, and people have a voice whenever changes to policy want to be made.

Being a fellow tech person myself, I'm always happy to see the "Under the Hood" side as well and really enjoy that level of transparency.

Gourd,

I'd at least like to hear if you've got financial issues supporting the servers and/or set up a Patreon/Patreon equivalent/coffee donation platform of choice. I'm supporting on Patreon the other Fediverse servers just to help support these endeavors, would like to be able to jump on here if/when the opportunity opens up.

Matt,

Hey, that's thoughtful of you to mention. At the end of the month, I plan to post a "NerdBin: State of the Bin" where I'll show what was spent, server resources remaining, metrics, etc .. and if it ever came down to needing assistance, I'd use something like OpenCollective (I've seen other federated services use this site) to ensure transparency, etc.
